Hey Gmc neters,
As you know i have a 23 foot Birchaven its a 12500 lb vehicle as
i am sure you all know.i am looking at a pontiac g5 as a possible tow(toad vechilce).I currently have a 2007 dodge ram 1500 full size bed.i dont think the gmc could really handle that.so with thease liquidation close out cars i may buy a pontiac g5.and trade in my ram.ill get 6500 off the msrp pluss 10 percent tax write off you itemize taxes not bad really.
What you all think about that.i have to make the deal tomm...

The $6,500 deal should be good through Monday January 4th from what I have read. But, it's a cash to the dealer arrangement, and the dealer isn't required to pass all of it along to you, it just depends on how bad they want it gone. I don't have the "inside" info that I used to, but since there are no '010 Pontiacs, there's not much reason for GM to keep those dealers happy after the 4th. So, they are probably pretty motivated to sell. (and as an aside, GM is motivated to put up the incentive since they don't want another bunch of dealers calling their congressman, and the Jan 4th date allows them to count it in end of 2009 year sales, and makes December look better . . .)
All that was because the biggest thing the car has going for it is the price. Resale value won't be great, but as long as you plan on keeping it a long time, that's not a big issue. It's long in the tooth from a design standpoint, (shared underpinnings with the Cobalt, which I think got it's last major but not complete redo in 2004 m.y. if my memory isn't too cloudy) so not as competitive from an interior quality or noise perspective as a newer GM design would be. It's probably worth reading some of the reviews on Edmunds.com or some of the other sites to get a feel for it. It's not as jewel like as a Honda Civic, but not as clunky as a PT Cruiser, to sort of set the boundaries. Decent powertrain, and gas mileage, and one advantage of being an older design is they've had time to hunt down a lot (but never all) of the little quality glitches. Shouldn't have to worry about warranty as that can get picked up at a Chevy dealer.
One thing I don't know, and haven't been able to find on the web, is wether it can be towed 4 down without any modifications. I believe HHR's can, and I'm pretty sure they share the same transmission. It's worth looking in the owners manual index under "Dingy Towing" and it should say what's required. Edmund's had the curb weight around 2800 lbs. so lot's less than a Dodge p/u but not down there with the early 2wd Trackers or some of the other small toads that people like.

Pontiac G5 (and G6) are on the list of cars that can be towed 4-down. Still check the owner's manual.

The $6500 is a direct rebate to the buyer. You are thinking of the $7000 incentive to the dealer that they can pass through once the vehicle has been transferred to a fleet or rental status. The $6500 deal is the way to go.
