This will not answer all questions. I don't have the piece that goes
between the door and the body on the hinge side or the strip it closed
against on the latch side. I also do not have the top and bottom plates
the door hinges on.

Charles,

Did you remove that from a GMC? Looks like a well built unit that
might have been popular at one time. The one on the TN coach looks to
me like a wooden frame. The aluminum with the piano hinge and pivot
pin hinges would probably occupy almost none of the door opening. I
might even be able to make one work satisfactorily in the X-Birchaven.
But then I remember that there are only about 2 days a year when I'd
want the solid door open -- one in the spring and one in the fall. :-)

Thanks,

Ken H.

Ken,
It came out of one of AJ Marshall's coaches. I never saw it installed but
I did discuss the installation with him. I tried to check the Mott phone
number at 814 Area code and it appears it might still be a good number.
Not sure A.I. Mott is still alive but the number is still a Mott number. I
don't
know where A.J. got the door. Since I have a Birch door on my coach
I am thinking about selling it. A couple locals have shown some interest.
It is very well constructed. Good structural frame and rigid piano hinge
full length of door. It is a heck of a lot more sturdy than the Birch door.

Charles,
(814) is a Pennsylvania area code. Try Googling it .
Central PA around Erie area. Problem is that they have split the area codes.

Surprised Charles I have that door in my coach. There is a half moon piece of plywood That fits between the inside wall over about a foot behind the seat the door hinges on this plywood from inside looking out hinges on the left. The door folds in middle. There is a U chanell that goes accross the top that the door fits in nothing on the bottom the top outside edges of the door will have a guide sliding in the U chanell. Therefore the door is recessed in about a foot If you like I can take pictures. Jack (olddog) jorsgladden@gmail.com

I bought a powered entry step (vacuum) from Mott in the mid 80's and was aware they also had built a screen door. The original designer (A.I.Mott) had passed on and a son or grandson was the one I dealt with back then. Somewhere in my files I have the original sales flyer for the screen door.

The power step used a 70's Corvette headlight vacuum accuator, had to replace it at least once which was quite expensive. Also the step was held in the open position by a spring and if the coach was parked with the front down hill, the step could slide closed when you stood on it. Not a pretty picture and decided it had to go.

Merry Christmas to all

Bill,

That sounds like the vacuum step Pete Papas gave me several years ago.
I've always wondered what the vacuum actuator came from although I've
had no problem with this one. I had to redesign it to swing opposite
for the 23'. It does have the swing tendency you mention but since I
seldom get on a hill it's not a significant problem -- though it is
one I have plans to correct.

Here are photos & sketch I posted several years ago:

Ken,

That looks pretty much like the one I had, with slight variations. Don't remember the diamond plate step, seems like it had a rubber cover. The vacuum cylinder doesn't look just like the one I had, could be my remembering isn't that keen. There was also a vacuum switch (which I had mounted on the fire wall) to bring the step out when the door was opened with the motor running.
