Hey Guys!!

Lucy and I will head to Florida early January and plan to stay in Jacksonville visiting kids/grandkids for a while. Then late january hope to head for Harlingen TX. We want to spend several weeks to a month kinda touring the gulf coast through Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas until we get to Harlingen where we hope to stay for about a month. Would any of you be willing to give up some of your favorite haunts along the gulf coast. We want to drive a little...stay a little....drive a little ....stay a little.

Love you all..

Larry,
Why are you going to Florida? Did you fail the Wisconsin driver's
test and they're making you?

Steve,

LOL...everytime the took a picture of me, I would fogged the whole roll of film. Why do you think the industry changed over to digital photography?? it wasn't for the grandkids, we might not go there. Traffic there in the winter is TERRIBLE!!

Larry,
Harlingen TX is where many of Winter Texans there during WINTER! Jim Grissom
is there in Edinburg, TX (next door to Harlingen). If he read this email
maybe he will chime in.

There is one retirement's mobile home park that's nice (I never see it) but
heard about it from the Winter Texans in McAllen airport; the name is
"Restful Valley". One of the resident want to sell their lot so I do have
their name. Here is the name of the community:

Steve,

Come join us in Texas on the way to Montgomery...??!!

Larry, I was kinda thinking yall might be hanging down there til the convention. It is a great time to start planning for our gathering in March. I should be nice and warm there while the north is still suffering from the winter weather. Everyone think about coming on down. Wisconsin is a real good place to get out of during the winter. Keep us posted on yall's travels.

Larry,
Montgomery is on my schedule. I wouldn't miss that Texas hospitality
for anything.
BTW, just in case you didn't know it, if you fail the three question
FL drivers license exam, they make you move to Sierra Vista, AZ. I

Steve,
I mean join us in Harlingen if you want. We will be there from Feb 17 until March 17. Will then meander on up to Montgomery.

Be sure to at least drive through Orange Beach and Gulf Shores,
AL--gorgeous, white sand beaches (they are along the same stretch of road
coming out of Pensacola, FL). There is a very nice State park/RV park at
Gulf Shores, near lots of good seafood restaurants and plenty of shopping in
Foley at the outlet mall. I grew up in LA (Lower Alabama) and spent lots of
time at the beach in the early years. We still go over for a week or so in
the fall.

Happy Travels!

i agree with Sandra. if you go to the beaches there is a fun RV park on the way: www.waleswest.com
we have had a couple of rallies there. if you like steam trains this is a "must do" stop. i'm in charge of the miniature railroad there and spend weekends there.

There are several winter Texan parks down here full to the brim from Jan
thru April. Some seem to be devoted to visitors from particular regions or
even nationalities. One particular park has a concentration of
French-speaking Canadians, another might have a concentration of Minnesota
visitors, or Iowa or Nebraska or Michiganders. I guess they don't want to
mix. One thing that people have to get used to down here is the difference
in culture. This border area is a diversity melting pot with visitors and
immigrants from all over the world somewhat due to the center of
international trade, finance and health care in this area. And, of course,
the nearness of the Mexican border (less than 3 miles from my front door)
makes for unique and exciting opportunities.
However, the general consensus of opinion is that this area is much more
economical than AZ or FL and generally has better weather (perhaps with the
exception of the southern tip of FL - as to weather only).
Come and try it, you might like it; and the chile rellenos are about the
best.

Do you REALLY think I might like it better not being under constant
harassment and rigid discipline and can-to-can't schedule as I was in
'58-'59 as an Aviation Cadet? Nothing's been able to get me back to
"The Tragic Valley" since 6 July 1959. :-)

Larry,

Last spring after Dothan GMCMI we stayed a few days in Mobile, AL and if you enjoy old southern homes and good food Mobile is great. The Mardi Gra Museum is a must see, Wintzell's Restaurant in downtown Mobile is a great place to eat and is very entertaining by all the cute signs and sayings all over the walls.
Have a wonderful trip each one in a GMC is a great experience and wonderful memories in the making.

G'day,

Helen and I stayed at the RV park below this past summer; it's expensive @
$69 a night but since we don't tow it was great since it's only a three
block walk to the French Quarter.

Rob I checked out that site, yeah pricey but location location
location etc... two weekends ago Grace and I went up to NYC to
hang with her daughter who works in Manhattan, we stopped by the
Rockefeller center to see the tree, talk about crowded and pricey.
For grins we went into Saks 5th Ave to see the $4k leather jackets
and $500 scarves, then headed over to the Met to see the Egyptian
antiquities which were cool. Anyway - we wanted to find a hotel
room for the night, paint the town, and I thought maybe 3 or 4
hundred bucks, nope, try 7 or 8 and a really cheap one in the
Village for 5 . So we schlepped back to Jersey on the new jersey
transit train which was 20 minutes late and came in on the wrong
track which naturally they didnt announce so everybody had to rush
up the stairs and back down the other side, $@%! NJ Transit , but
before we boarded I stopped into a store to grab a bottle of water
for 6 bucks and saw a cup of fresh cut fruit for $20 ahhhh the
joys of Christmas in NYC. I still have on my bucket list to do

Rusty,

If you want to take your GMC up to NYC here's the RV park Helen and I stayed
at last year. At the time it was $60 per night but as you said location

I still have on my bucket list to do
Times Square on New Years Eve though. but dont ask me why.
