This might be a dumb question to pose.I have a 76 Birchaven transmode.i was fixing the sink and i bought a moen 1200 cartridge to replace in my sink?i found

I think i followed the instructions tried two different times and still had leaks from the base of the faucet and on the top dident seem to effect the original issue.i had a leaky sink. Laughing

I also have a leak coming from under the toilet i beleive its the theatford model.but i am not a plumber by any means.any help or idea would be great.i also found onlineis a tech design on bdubs site.i referd to each plans and dident get anyplace??

Thanks for any info

Older Moen especially need OEM Moen carts and orings. Look for real plumbing parts house. Accept no knockoffs. Many moons of repair parts exp. here.

These days, I feel it is better to just replace the whole faucet as there are many low cost and good quality choices, plus you get updated styling.

My 2 cents.

Thanks

I did make sure i bought moen parts and the directions said to simply replace the cartridge(moen 1200)i followed the destructions and it dident repair it??one thing i couldent tell is it said make sure the red dot on the cartridge faces front.there wasent a red dot on the replacement.the old one did have a red mark but i shoulda took better care to see how each part was set.

it said nothing about o rings or the like in fact it had new ones on the new catridge.one thing i thouhgt was odd is when i shut off the main water valve it had to be tured backwards or counter clockwise is this normal?

but thanks for the input.

Bill Massey has the Moen faucet pdf at
http://www.bdub.net/manuals/index.html
The spout O-rings #137 might be the problem if you get the leak when the faucet is turned on. There might be some crud inside the spout where the O-rings ride and you can clean that off with a brillo pad or something like that. The rings should be lubed with some silicone grease so the spout can swivel and not tear up the rings.

To GMCDUDE, if you turn on the faucet with the cartridge fully installed but before you put the handle back on, you can see if the leak is from around the cartidge(maybe). As has been posted, the leaked could be from the spout. The O-rings wear(a tiny bit) every time the spout is swivelled.

The "dot" is probaly to get the hot and cold correct. If the hot is now on the other side than it used to be, remove the "clip",
(I presume the GMC faucet is like the Moens I know) and rotate
the cartridge 180 degrees. Of course this assume you have hot and cold water. Turning of one of the lines is an alternative.
It's not funny when you get hot when expecting cold and vicea versa.

G'day,

The kitchen faucet in Double Trouble leaked so I took it apart and put a
rebuild kit in it from Delta and that fixed the leak, kinda.

We noticed that if you turned it on with no city water pressure on or the
pump off and reduced the line pressure to zero it would drip.

Turn the pump on for a few second to build up the line pressure and it would
stop.

Regards,
Rob
