When I bought my GMC 14 years ago, I thought I was the only guy in the
world to own one. Since then I have discovered there are a couple of
other people who have them as well.
One guy who I talked to before I met him, was Ken Burton...the topic on that
occassion, I believe, was totally unrelated to GMCs. Since then I have
bumped into him here and there at rallys...what I'm trying to say is that we
never became what you would call 'close' friends but we knew each other.....
Over the last couple of days, Ken has gone beyond the 'call of duty' in
helping me out!

While I choose not provide details of what he has done for me, as it might
begin a landslide of requests for the same assistance, he has, with a total
disregard for his own time..and the boy has many interests and time
demands...given me , on two seperate occassions, countless hours of
'assistance'....
So what can I say except a thank you to the GMC community for permitting me
to meet such kind and generous guy as Ken, and to Ken himself, for his
dedication and efforts to my 'problem'.....It's a hellofagroup we have here
folks, and trust me, you don't find the kind of people that this 'network'
breeds anywhere else.....
And to Mrs Burton, I would have killed him yesterday...never mind bringing
food to him today ! <VBG>

Thanks Ken !

Peter
Look at it as something very few have done before..I once put a B-18 Volvo
engine in the back of a VW van and another (B-30) in a Mercedes...the parts
supply guys were wondering if their lawn mowers were safe..

Come to NS some time

I'll bet every coach on the road has on it the fingerprints of some generous GMC enthusiast who was willing to help somebody the way they had been helped out in the past. Mine has Rob Allen's and Bruce Tara's among others. Bravo Zulu Ken!

If they don't, they likely aren't on the road anymore.

Mike exaggerates what we did. You are welcome for the assistance.

It is just normal around here to help others in areas we know something about. I help you and someone will help me. It all comes out even in the end.

I have a great bunch of guys locally that I associate with that range from a doctor, to a union laborer, a highway worker, a millwright, a mechanist, corporate pilot, a welder, two security guards, a sheriff's deputy, an IT specialist, a multiple restaurant owner, a plumbing store owner, a music store owner, a stock broker, two steel mill workers, an auto mechanic, a power plant operator, two farmers, and just about any other proficiency you can think of. When somebody tackles a job or a problem, whomever has knowledge or experience in that area will hop in to assist. Others will hop in just to learn something. I have found the same camaraderie to exist in the GMC world. You help me and I'll help someone else in return. In the process we all learn a little of what the other one knows and become a little more proficient in a new area in the process.

It is a Midwest thing but I have also seen this in some other parts of the country and Canada. I have never been east of Ontario on the ground in Canada so I can not vouch for eastern Canadians but it is sure that way in central and western Canada. Just look at people like Denny Allen, Gordon, or the Alberta GMCers. In the US just look at people like Emery S., Steve F., Ken H., Bob B., Blaine M., John R, Jim K., Jim B., Terry T., Bert & Faye, Gene F., Ray S., Jim M., Billy M., Rick D., Rob M., Kerry T., and the list goes on and on and on. I know I missed many names in the above list.

My point is that this is the same type of group that we have locally only spread over a much larger geography. Yes Aussies, you are included. I love teasing the Aussies and the Kalifornia ones. I do not tease the Canadians because they will get even by sending more cold air my way.

I still can not get over how nice I was treated by every one and how welcome I felt when I attended the GMC 49ers rally last month. I was a non-member in a borrowed SOB. Thanks Suzanne and Tom.

Thanks for the nice note of recognition Mike.
I'll assist whenever I can.

Ken B.

Peter,

I can't believe you missed chance at teaching the Yanks some 'strine! ;-)

Ken is Fair Dinkum!

In the days of the gold rush the Chinese miners referred to gold in their
colloquial Chinese as Din Cum (phonetically Dinkum to western ears). In
broken English, gold that is good quality or high grade is genuine or fair
gold. Hence genuine gold is Fair Dinkum. Over time anything that was genuine
became fair dinkum."
