The lighter the better but that said, I have seen some pull 4000#
plus. We first towed a 91 2dr 4wd tracker and it weight at about
1900#. Next is was a 4wd 4dr 2001 tracker at about 2850#. Our latest
towed is a Honda FIT which is towed 4 down and weight in at just under
2500# and some have even towed the Smart Car which is under 2000#.
IMHO I think that the Honda FIT is the best bang for the dollar with a
lot of space inside at this time. When we were at the Dothan GMCMHI
rally we got all sorts of comments on the FIT as a towed. Also as
said the VW bug is light as well as the early Saturn's. The Saturn
VUE towed by several I know but it is in the 3600# range and the 07
and earlier are better

There were toad's of all sizes and shapes at the Pueblo rally but the topper was a bodacious 57 Chevy in an enclosed cargo trailer. The owner figured it topped off at over 7000 pounds.

Mac,
Welcome.
I have been driving a GMC and towing a vehicle for 15 years or so now.
I started out with a Metro, 1,600 lbs. Scarey at first because I
couldn't tell or feel it back there. After a few years, we switched
to a 2002 Honda Civic. Another perfect vehicle to tow at 2,300 lbs.
I can tell it's back there and I always hook up the Brake Buddy as the
GMC stops better using that while towing, than it does if I don't hook
it up. 1,400 lbs (est.) for two harleys and a single axle trailer
weighs less than most small cars that can be towed so I would not even
worry about it. I have on occasion towed an enclosed, single axle,
12' Wells Cargo trailer. I can tell it's back there because of the
wind resistance. The new ones have aerodynamic noses on them so I
imagine that is a non issue. There have been a few times when I
wished I had brakes on the trailer though so that might be a
consideration if you choose to do this.
have a big question regarding suitability for MY requirements.
The referenced subject is of considerable importance to me,
as wife and I each ride Harley motorcycles and any motorcoach
that would interest us would necessarily need to be capable of
hauling a trailer with both bikes aboard.

We tow a 91 2-dr. 4-wd automatic Tracker. Had it weighed: 2645 lbs. We
towed it from Huntsville to Santa Rosa, north through Oregon, Washington,
BC, The Yukon, Alaska and back in 2008. No problems.
However, since I get to ride in the back, I've been wanting to get a newer
4-door towd... Bob keep saying anything else weighs too much; however, when
I saw that big enclosed trailer hauling that beautiful 57 Chevy convertible
come into the Fairgrounds at Pueblo (must have had to cross at least one
mountain pass to get there), I thought--hey, something's wrong with this
picture. We've also seen the Saturn Vues being towed and, just recently,
friends drove into the RV Park in San Antonio towing a Chevy Trailblazer (he
had a 455 engine; so do we). Again, I'm still wanting something bigger,
more comfortable. Maybe it's just what one is willing to put up with...

Sandra,
Yeah, that short wheelbase the Trackers have sure makes for a choppy
ride. That's why we sold ours. Running good tires at minimum
inflation pressures (thanks Gary W.) did help the ride quite a bit
though. Dan and Terry Gregg tow Vibe, which, I think, is the same as
what you're considering, and they seem to have no problems. The also
travel a lot of secondary roads. I believe they have the 3.70 final
drive and that's a big plus for towing anything.
Hard to beat the ride quality, performance, mileage and handling of
the Honda Civic. At 2,300 lbs it's a pleasure to tow. It is only
nicer towing nothing.

Mac,
I tow 2 Harleys in a single axle Haulmark trailer no problem. Sturgis and back twice.
I also have a 20' enclosed trailer with 2 axles and electric brakes for going to the desert with off-road cars.
The GMC stops better with the 2 axle than with no trailer.
Adding a 3.70 final helped a lot, as did an aluminum radiator.
Go for it.
