Just curious - I've seen some coaches with some very nice-lookign carpet part way up the sides, covering the original bead board paneling. What type of carpet or fabric did you use?

Gary, our coach came with carpet on the front walls and the headliner. It was short loop and pile stuff. We have been replacing it. The p/o had it glued on the board. Held up pretty good. Probably helps keep the noise down also.

Gary..
My coach also came with the sides carpeted.. But, I replaced the carpet last fall.. We just peeled the old carpet off and reglued with several well placed staples at the edges etc. It was just a good quality household carpet.. And I too believe it keeps noise down and helps insulate a bit..

We just got a piece of short pile carpet from Menards in a color that Laurie liked. I insulated the wall, then covered it with Microfoil and then the carpet. I mounted the carpet with sheet metal screws. The heads get hidden in the carpet and it makes it quickly removable at any time in case you wish to work inside the wall for some reason. The original masonite paneling went on fire pile. That is the trash can for you city folk.

I used indoor/outdoor loop pile carpet of good quality, held in place
with staples and not glued (I want to be able to remove it). But I
only went part way up the walls, and hid the staple line with a piece
of trim. It covered up a multitude of carpentry sins, some old, some
mine.

I have seen solid-color cut-pile carpet used on walls and headliners,
and I think it doesn't stand up to abuse very well. All GMCs leak and
have moisture issues, even if it's just condensation, and a good
multi-thread loop pile indoor/outdoor carpet will look better for
longer in that environment.

I don't remember whether what we used was polyester or nylon, but if
you get nylon, make sure it has a static treatment, which I think most
do.

Boy do I miss a good fire pile!! No can do in the Phoenix suburbs. It just isn't that much fun throwing it in a trash container.

Boy do I hear ya on that one Bob !

When I lived "up nort", we had gigantic bon fires.....what a great time.

Here in the Milwaukee area they really frown on that stuff.....but at least they do allow us to have a small fire pit next to the patio for nice evening small camp fires.......fits in PERFECT with a good cigar and a couple of Irish Ales !

Around here we are still inside the Chicago non-atttainment area by a few miles so no open burning is allowed with a few exceptions.

Farmers may open burn to clear scrub brush and along fence rows. Also you may have camping and cooking fires.

The fire department is in charge of writing violations. Ours is a volunteer fire department that comes around every year looking for donations. They are not inclined to write tickets or their donations will dry up.

We still get out a package of hot dogs when we have a large fire so we can claim that we will cook them when the fire dies down. I've never had a problem here with open fires in over 30 years.

In Phoenix I would think it also would not be a problem. Just set the stuff out in the sun and it ought to light up and burn off on it's own.

LOL

Rick - this is the first time I have seen the pix of the interior work on your coach. Wow. It looks really good, real quality work and attention to detail. I bet you cant wait to get new windshield glass, your smoked edges are like mine were, and PA refused to pass inspection on them so I was forced to deal with that in the beginning. You'll be amazed at how much better the cockpit looks and feels when you do. I like those stainless engine access knobs. And the vinyl edging on the berber, totally great decision, exactly what I need on my berber, which at 3 yrs old needs replacement already because of the lost edges I have to cut off every time one gets pulled - where can I get that. The wood window trim with valences is the best I have seen. Really nice job.

I got it from McMaster-Carr. J.C. Witless sells it, too, but for more
money. West Marine has it but there it's MUCH more money.

Thanks. They were easy to make.

I appreciate the comments, but I hope you guys who on and off-list
sent praise don't ever see it in person. If you do, you'll discover
that I'm a much better photographer than I am a carpenter.

And, boy, those windshields are WAY down on my list. My appearance
list includes:

1. Body work.
2. Paint.
3. Powder-coat front bumper.
147. Windshields.

Wow Rick! Your interior is beautiful. Some different from the first time I saw it so many years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person some day - hopefully sooner rather than later. Great Job!!
