I'm with Dave. When I took mine off it shattered anyway so I helped shatter it some more so I could fit the pieces into a garbage bag. There are plenty of storage attachments available that will plug into the hitch and have a receiver on them so you can still tow. I kept and buffed up my ladder though, just not the rails on top. I also sold my awning. I prefer streamlined. So I had over a hundred holes to fill before I painted last June.

well i'm probably the oddball here, but i like the storage pod. of course, i'm only 31 so getting up to the roof and getting things up and down isn't a problem for me. it works great for lawn chairs, a screen room tent, strollers, etc. that being said, i do like the bumper hitch box. but i'd definitely want a way to keep my hitch as well for towing.

Gary -- I'm not the one looking, but thanks. I was just commenting on the thread about who likes/doesn't like the roof pod. I happen to like mine, which is a bit cracked but getting a new one is a long way down on my list of things that are needed. Thanks again though!

Hey Jeremy;
Yep, I goofed-up. I was really trying to get this info to Jim
Haglund, the fellow that started the thread. My apologies to you.
However, if JimH is reading this thread, then maybe he will respond.
Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm not in any big hurry - fact finding mission at this point. Did they
come stock with GMC's? What size is yours? I do get over your way for wine
tasting so if the need is still there next year I'll look you up.
Thanks

Jim--as you can see, you get lots of opinions on this, but the real issue is what do you want to fit your usage. My coach came with the OEM pod, but was replaced with a larger unit from Camping world. It was about $550 with free installation. I store my Zodiac and outboard up there as well as use it as a base for my solar panel. I'm not up there everyday but don't mind having it for those large items that I don't want inside or hanging off the back. I also use a hitch carrier for firewood and Kipor genny depending on my particular trip. A large pod does have an issue with the overhead A/C. In my case it has about 6" of clearance to the front unit and I can tell a bit of reduced performance from that unit, but life is full of accepted compromises isn't it?

I took my pod off, and I'm afraid to move it, it is so brittle. I was afraid it would come off on it's own.
My PO cut the railing along the back of the coach to allow the rear AC to extend back. It was mounted to the original vent hole, far as I can tell, and has factory wiring to it.
I have seen several on the photosite that have both units forward. Kind of a different look. do they get enough cool air to the back?

Chris,
Here's a link to the Dometic website on line manual for their units:
http://www2.dometicusa.com/pdf/3109270.060.pdf
Scroll down to page 5 and you'll see that from the outlet to the rear of the
unit is 14 7/8" or 21 3/8" depending on the model. The units that are both
facing forward are the former.
