I have converted my GMC to have a full size bed in the rear of the coach. While I currently have the coach gutted, getting a regular mattress in place will be easy. However I am wondering if I ever have to remove it will I be able once the wardrobe is back in place?
Any input will be appreciated.

You can get it in and out...just not easily. If you left the locker/hamper,
you have a double bed.
If you removed the hamper/locker, you have a double long.

We installed an 8" memory foam matress..

Good luck

Tony, you can but it will take two stout folks. Teri and I pulled a very good Serta out of our's and replaced it with foam and memory foam. We love it and it makes the bed much easier to make.

Tony,

I did the same as you. I went to THE ORIGINAL MATTRESS FACTORY where they custom made a mattress for the opening. It is based on a mattress that they had for a semi's sleeper. It is easy to get in and out and sleeps better than our bed in our house (Cheaper too).

I put a pillow top mattress in mine about 7 years ago it was a tight fit but it makes for a good nights sleep. The main trouble I see is the older I get the harder it gets to remove it as Dave points out you have to fold and twist it as you cram it in.

Roy,
I've been sleeping on a select comfort mattress for years, its never lost whatever pressure I have set, and never deflated by itself.

The best part is the ability to adjust the firmness anytime. When its deflated, the mattress is light and easy to move.

do you use an inverter for the air pump, or just adjust it when you are in a
campground?

WHEN I converted the rear to a full time rear bed I used the Air Bed " brand name " purchased on EBay. They were 2 for $90 at the time and that was 3 years ago. I remove it for the winter and put it back in the spring. One has lasted for 3 yrs now. Blow it up with the included pump and it last till fall. I find it easy to make up. My wife used a fitted sheet set and attached the top sheet to the bottom sheet so that stays put also she made a fitted quilt so that stays put.

Our problem with the air mattress was its height. Had to high jump onto the bed.

started getting static from the navigator (bad knees and old age), so had to
install a folding step to the bed.

Gene,
Sorry mist your question, yes about the inverter.
You can set up a remote switch for the inverter, or some way to power the inverter on when air up or down the mattress.

Would like to change it to 12vdc, but the inverter cost less.

Select comfort mattress when aired up look just like a regular coil mattress.

I do my best to avoid sleeping on a coil mattress.

Bob and I have a Select Comfort mattress at home and really like it. When
we changed our O L D mattress shortly after buying our coach, we decided to
try an Aero Bed. It served us well from 2006 to shortly after Pueblo, when
we had a flat and replaced the air matress with a 4" memory foam mattress
topper. 4" was all Walmart had, so we thought we'd try it. Bob is the one
who has back problems and he has been very satisfied with this 4" topper.
We both sleep very well on it. We both would have another air mattress (but
it IS higher/thicker and makes getting in/out more difficult). For now
we'll use the 4" topper and may consider getting a thicker one later.

We had a queen-size mattress made by a mattress manufacturing company in Reno NV. It is made in two pieces so it comes out very easily by one person. I also added a two inch topper and it is one great bed. Only cost about $300 for the special mattress.

We bought a firm 5" Queen mattress topper online from JC Penny, IIRC it was about $104 and change...delivered to my door. It sleeps better than our mattress at home. If for any reason you need to remove it from coach, just fold it in half and pull it out the door. If it needs trimming to fit, use an electric knife (the kind you use on the Thanksgiving turkey) really works good for us.
