Hey All;

The Dometic RM2812 refer in the GMC is not getting as cold as it
use to. The freezer cools down to 20 degrees, and the refer part only
cools to about 50 degrees. I think they should be closer to 0 degrees
and 36 degrees. It would appear that maybe the thermostat has changed,
but I can't seem to find one. Could this be due to a loss of
refrigerant? Any ideas? It's friday, and we're scheduled to leave for
CA on monday or tuesday, so no way I can get it to a shop for fixen.
Thanks for any info.

The refrigerant in those is ammomia. If it was leaking, you would know it.
Does it cool the same on gas vs electric?
Is the cooling ability sudden or a gradual change?
There is a thermistor (temperature sensor) clipped to the cooling fins inside the frig in the upper right corner. Make sure it is in place.
Make sure that the side vents and the roof vent are clear of obstructions.
I do not want to worry you too much at this point because you need to check the above things first, but you may be seeing the beginning of a cooling unit failure for which the fix is a $400.00 do it yourself replacement or about $600.00 to have it done. There was a good post about cooling units recently. Search for it and read up. But check the other things first.
Remember, it can take many hours to cool initially depending on outside air temperature and whether the sun is on that side of the coach. I try to keep the frig side in the shade as much as possible. Let us know what you find.

Hey All;

First, I would like to thank everyone that responded both publicly
and privately. I received the service manual and the operations manual
which are full of good info, and some great tips from folks. So what I
did, was I pulled the refrigerator out of the motorhome (with help
from my hydraulic jack), drug it into my garage, turned it upside
down, and let it sit for 24 hours. I did this, cause the manual said
that the ammonia could get trapped in various loops and curves if the
motorhome is not level (which it rarely is), and I had done this once
before with the CamoGMC refrigerator and it had fixed it's problem.
Well, the freezer is now at 0-degrees, and the bottom part is now at
38-degrees (this is on propane). I think these are OK values. I just
finished loading the refrigerator up with our travel food (CA here we
come), so I'll see if the temps hold tomorrow morning. Thanks again to
everyone, you guys are great.
