Matt,
Even at $225 they're pretty steep. I would want to see some NUMBERS as to
how much "brighter" they are.

Gee,
The price is already coming down. I discovered the Trucklite 7" headlights
while searching for the reading lights for the back bedroom. It took me a
while to find a dealer, and when he got me a price of 345$us - EACH I
decided that was a changed that could wait.

When I first discovered these, I put on a corporate shirt and contacted Trucklite. (This works for most things as long as they don't look me up and find out what the company is about.)
All I could get was a data sheet that said that the offered were interchangeable with H6014, 6024 and PAR56 (physical package specifications) and that they met or exceeded the DOT headlight specifications (if you remember old headlights, that will be little comfort). Oh - yes, they are available in 12V and 24V.
I guess we will have to wait on this one.

I agree!
Let's assume that truth in advertising laws means the following statement
copied from Levine's website ad is correct:
"The LED light output is brighter than traditional glass beam headlights,
resulting in greater light projection."
Which as you noted below "will be little comfort" especially since I'm
running Sylvania Halogen Sealed Beam headlights in Double Trouble.
What really sounds like "sales speak" is:
"The LEDs in the headlamp produce a crisper, whiter light output than even
the brightest halogen sealed or bulb-replaceable lamps available today."
What the hell does "crisper, whiter light output" mean? I note they do NOT
state that the LED light output is "brighter" than the halogen bulbs!
Things that make you go Hmmmmm?

The term "brighter" is meaningless, as you can concentrate all the output of a source in a very small spot, and it will be "brighter" but useless.
"crisper, whiter light output" means that the color temperature is higher, probably closer to 5000K, meaning it is a very blue white, vs. any incandescent source such as halogen. Again, a useless way to evaluate a headlight.
All high output LED lights, such as headlights have a heat related problem which is a difficult engineering issue to solve. It is common for high output LED's to reduce light production significantly as they get hotter. Even the 3 watt LED flashlights fall off in brightness when used for long time periods. Headlights are much more difficult. They are working hard on this issue, but it is far from resolved at this point in time. Sometime in the future we may see a reasonable ($) LED headlight replacement but my guess is that by that time there will not be many 7" round headlights around to replace.
LED tail lights and marker lights have worked out quite well in automotive and truck use, but they are small output sources, and have the ability to spread heat over a relatively large area. A headlight, or a home light of high output, is quite a different issue. I am not saying it will never be solved, but how or when, and at what price, is the question that is hard to answer.

What they actually are saying is
The LEDs in the Headlamp produce a brite crisp light at the point of measurement, brighter than halogen sealed or bulb replacement lamps.
What the hell does "crisper, whiter light output" mean? I note they do NOT state that the LED light output is "brighter" than the halogen bulbs!
The direct type beam of a LED is what they may be referring to. We already know the light output "appears" whiter because of the natural "blue" enhancement of the LED light.
What I did not see, yet, is the loading. As the LED gets brighter, it is no longer the economical power miser, having grown up to being a watt buster to produce the light needed for such a light production scheme. With Ten of those LEDs in there, we with the old vehicles will have to look and see if our circuits can handle the load.
If price was not an object, I would still have to see what the actual output looked like and if it did not bother my eyes like these friggin intense arc lamps that the government foolishly let loose on the general public.... They blind me everytime they drive toward me. Hi or low beam. What a mistake.
Before you go renting the Brinks truck to carry the money to the AutoZone to get the new LED lamps, I would say hang back and lets see what actually comes of these new attractions. They may not be all that they are cracked up to be.

If you wear a beanie cap with a prop on it, you MUST have spinning hub
caps. Other wise you spin in place.
