It helps to realize that both twins don't have to be long. I am 6'6" but my wife is only 5'6". I admit I am doing other major interior change, but the different length helps a lot.

Wayne ...
The rear bed / dry bath lay-out is well worth the wait, or the extra time
looking.
We're very glad that we found out about this option before buying.
I converted ours to a rear fore-and-aft queen. Just what we wanted.

An off net friend of mine has a 77 Royale rear twin, dry bath for sale.
Coach is located in Lancaster PA. He can be contacted at Bobanneg1@aol.com
or contact me off net for a cell #. If your interested, don't delay as he
heads to his FL home in a week or so and the coach remains in PA.

Due to a number of personal reasons we have narrowed our MH search to a
model with twin rear beds. Looking at the floorplans, is it possible to
reconfigure a rear queen to two twins? It appears that the size of the area
is the same and it would be a matter of rebuilding the floor layout. Am I
wrong?
Are there other hidden things under the floor that might interfere?
We have been looking for a couple of years and gathering info and with
retirement a couple of years away it is now time to buy and adapt it to our
needs. There are some nice units out there but they are rear queen setups
and that will not work for us. I really like the Royales but most seem to be
a rear bath. There is a 77 Palm Beach in my price range that has
possibilities but the rear bed configuration is the only issue.
Has anyone done such a change that can elaborate on the pitfalls?
Thanks

Don, look up the floor plans at Patrick's web site. The layout depends on
what company
does the floorplan design. GM twins are different than the
Transmode/upfitted twins.
Golby & Clasco, to mention two converters (not upfitters), took out the
hanging locker
on one side and built a shorty locker over where you feet would be.

I apologize in advance if I am posting incorrectly. I understand I might be posting through email instead of the forum, but I'm not sure what that means. This thread speaks to my main delimma. I'm 6'5" but my wife wants a "permanent" bedroom. She also wants a sofa in the fore cabin as well as some sort of other seating. The center twin Royale would work for me with my feet hanging off the end, but momma always wins.
I guess the solution first must include a rear bedroom. I prefer the dry bath, but wouldn't walk away from the wet if I find the right coach. I also need something with the potential for one longer bed. we might resort to my sleeping on the sofa, but would prefer to sleep in the rear in a permanent bed. I know there is the issue of climbing over to go to the bathroom, but life isn't perfect. I guess an east-west landlocked bed would be an option, but can it be a queen? On some I understand there is a storage unit that can be removed to gain more space. Correct?
Is there any option that would allow twins in the rear to be lengthened, short of cutting 2 foot holes in the back? Does the wet bath help with that?
I've studied and studied the floor plans and wish they had dimensions marked. I know the width is 8' but I don't know the dimensions of the various cabin arrangements. I've already decided I'll have to walk around stooped over. At least I want to be able to sleep stretched out! Help.

Stick,
I am 6' 2" and when I was looking for a GMC one of my requirements was twin
singles.
One of the guys sent me pictures of his Royale was tall also and he had cut
an access hole into the closet for his feet. It hinged outwards and upwards.
At night he said he would open it and his feet would stick into the closet.
He slept in a sleeping bag.
The following models have rear twins:
Royale = 74 inches long
Avion = 75 inches long
Edgemont = 77 inches long

First of all, that is some beautiful work. I'm not sure I'm up to your
standards.
So, let me get this straight: you have a memory foam mattress topper right
on the plywood. Does that give you a full queen?
Also, on the floor plans on this site the last one shown is a 26 ft. with
twins and a dry bath. Looks like I might be able to sneak a little bit of
the closet, even though that would not please the wife. I could have a long
bed and we would cut out the extra weight of her excessive wardrobe. :)

You are from Americus GA.?? I assume you know Ken Henderson?? One of the best people in the gmc group. (Everyone else runs a close second).
Yes we do have a foam Mattress topper, but is *not* memory foam...just a (firm) mattress topper layed directly on the plywood, and it makes for a full queen (60 X 80 mattress size) and an extra 6" at the head and foot of the bed, making for 92" wall to wall. I've often thought of getting a King Mattress (76 X 80) and cutting the foot off at 73". That would allow us a king size bed and laying the length of the coach instead of across. Problem is we'd have to custom make bottom sheets, and making the bed would be harder. She would not have to crawl over me in the middle of the night....Humm...better rethink this....

Yes, I do know Ken. I am afraid he is going to rue the day he mentioned GMC's to me at a Humane Society event a few months ago. He has created a monster. I was all set to buy a Bluebird and he convinced me to look elsewhere.
I can live with the queen. We have an antique bed that is somewhere between a king and a queen and it is tough to make sheets fit. We generally use queen size and stretch them.
I'm interested in another post that has the twin beds in an Edgemont at 77 inches. We travel by Amtrak a pretty good bet and I'd be willing to bet that the beds in the rooms are not much longer than that. Thanks for the info.

Stick,
If you're interested in buying an Edgemont I believe Michael Bozardt has one
at his shop down in Houston.

I'd like to know more about the modification that allows the lengthening of one of the twin beds.
"It helps to realize that both twins don't have to be long. I am 6'6" but my wife is only 5'6". I admit I am doing other major interior change, but the different length helps a lot."
I'm responding to Robert McMahan's Oct 2009 post.
Thanks
