We've just come back from our first "vacation" trip in our Palm Beast. We drove from Fremont to Disneyland, and back, about 900 or so miles and she drove beautifully!
The first 2 nights we stayed in a hotel, and the last night we parked right on the beach in Huntington Beach. What great luck! We stayed at the Sunset Vista Camper Facility in Huntington Beach (714) 536-5280. They had electricity and water (tv too I think) and a dump station for $60 / night. Kind of pricey, but did I mention that it was RIGHT ON THE BEACH!
On the drive down my wife had never experienced being up as high - or out as far - as the passenger seat in the coach, and was terrified during our trek over the Grapevine. Being face-to-face with big rigs on steep hills was not her cup of tea, so we drove back on 101 to solve that problem.
I had replaced the driver's side exhaust manifold gasket with a big Remflex from Jim K's place the week before the trip. I did something upon reassembly and the coach had a lot more power than during our trip from Ohio. It roared as if the secondaries were finally opening up!
Well, on the drive home it became clear that the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket failed. Along with this the coach seemed to idle poorly and I have no clue why.
I replaced the passenger side gasket yesterday (already had the gasket) and the coach quieted right down. But now I don't think the secondaries are opening again. Is it possible I've over-tightened the air cleaner wing nut, or disturbed the linkage, or something? The idle seemed better, but now it's idling at about 800 rpm instead of 950.
I'm scratching my head, but loving every minute of it!
On the drive out of Huntington Beach we came up Highway 1 and passed a beautiful white GMC Motorhome with aluminum wheels etc. I honked, as I felt it was just good manners, but I doubt they saw us.
The girls loved the bunk bed, and my wife and I endured the rear (unbolted yet) sofa's.

Larry..
Sounds like a nice first trip!
You should consider one of those tempur pedic like pads, Min is 5 inches I think.. Makes all the difference on that back bed!

I stayed there in 2001 for 2 weeks, that was before they added the electric hookups, about every 4 days we would dump and fill the fresh water tank. It only cost $13 a night at that time I sure wish they hadn't remodeled it I couldn't afford to stay 2 weeks now. The pier, the shops and the movie theater are a definite plus.
Make sure your choke is 100% straight up as there is a little tab that will prevent the secondary air valve from opening.

If that is the little lever that I am thinking about, Dick Paterson just removes it. I can not remember the exact words he used when I asked him about it, but it was something along the lines of "Causes more trouble than it solves."

Larry,
The secondary auxiliary lock is on the right side of the carb, and the choke rod is what trips the lock. The choke must be fully open to unlock the auxiliaries.
The purpose is to prevent the use of the secondaries when the engine is cold and (atomization is poor) would or could cause a bog on acceleration, especially in cold climates
We can remove it, since we (I) warm the engines before departing.

Then again Yuba City gets a lot colder than Fremont. I'll be you
have frost on maybe 8 days a year, and Fremont only gets 3.
(just for our friends in the frozen climes)

I'll try and find a pic when I get home from work. If I can't the lever might be on the 403 carb that is in a box next to my computer and camera.
