Toilet leaks, Damp Flooring [message #61148]

I pulled the carpet from the Twin bed and Bath area (Dry Bath) found that the floor is damp, not wet but definite moisture. It looks like it travels from the Toilet area across to the water heater area. Dry everywhere else.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, and what was the solution?

Any suggestions?

Sure would like some input on this. Want to install the wood flooring but hesitate until I can solve this.

I would not suspect the toilet as much as I would suspect the shower drain or another leak like the hot water tank.

The reason that I would not suspect the toilet is because of the way it is mounted and attached to the blackwater tank. If you have a leak in the toilet it should leak into the shower and thendown the shower drain as opposed into the coach.

I had a leak in the shower drain on mine that was caused by the plumbers putty that was used to seal the drain to the shower getting old and brittle.

The connections for the shower drain are unique to the caoch once you get past the drain itself. They are also not very accessable.

If you pull the board just below the bath on the hallway side, you can see a catch pan just under the shower trap if it is full of water it is probably a good place to start looking.

With a struggle I was able to take mine apart and repair the leak, but it was not easy.

Richard, I have a wet bath. I had a leak at the back of toilet, where water comes in to the valve. The valve was bad. Can you see behind the toilet? Feel back there where the water line comes and is attached to the toilet. I think that is about the only place it can leak. It will put water down around the base of the toilet. I bought the expensive part and fixed it. Was just barely leaking. The following year I got a new China Bowl and saved the expensive part for some other GMCer in Ga.

Richard, I had the same trouble as Dan/Terri; When I got the bowl out and tried to look around, the old plastic just gave away here and there. I just bought the China one from Camping World for $200.00. It is a high rise that my wife likes and is a snug fit in the area, but works great. You may have some damage in the plywood under the toilet and the bolt pattern has to be changed. It unscrews from the tank, but hard to get it started.
Like many things, it'll take longer than you think to complete the job! Best o' luck.
