G'day,
Having replaced the converter in Double Trouble with a PD-9260 I decided to
do the same with The Blue Streak as it has the original buzz box hooked to a
240-120 VAC step down transformer.
Unfortunately Progressive Dynamics does not make 240 VAC input units so I
began searching here in Australia; below you will find several candidates.
I would appreciate if those of you who are not electrically challenged like
yours truly would review the specs for the units below and comment.
1) This unit has inputs from three sources - 240VAC - Alternator - Solar

When I saw the title of this posting I expected to see an upside down Kangaroo pedaling a bicycle attached to an alternator/generator.
It is good that you did not accept my offer of a ride to the airport. You would have missed your airplane. We did not get out of there until 12:00 noon.

Ken,
It was kind of you to offer!
I had a nice ride up to a gas station near where Richard & Sharon Smith live
in Castle Rock. Richard had to head home to get ready to go race his Alfa
Romeo the next day so Sharon took me to the airport from there. I was a bit
embarrassed as it was a fair hike from Castle Rock to the airport.
I checked in and relaxed that afternoon, had a nice dinner and got to the
airport the next day with no stress!
Now let me go see if I can catch that Kangaroo!

it off a step down transformer supplying 120VAC @ 50HZ.

that works great, just keep the stepdown it is cheaper and will be fine.
If it ran the buzz box it will run the PD. Might have to use a cheaper PD
,better any way , I hate combo boxes

I had already spotted their Pure Sine Wave inverters and was going to import
one for The Blue Streak as they are not sold in Australia.

It does both 120V/60Hz and 240V/50Hz. Just set the dip switches for "loaded
battery" operation to act as a power supply and charger.
You can likely source this model right in Australia.

Rob,
I use some Samlex equipment in my business so I buy them from a number of our usual distributors.
Hutton Communications based in Texas is one we buy from and can recommend.

Switching power supplies do not really care about 50/60Hz, the voltage maybe switch selectable, or could be wide voltage input from 100 to 250volts.
We have used their Sine Wave inverters as well. I can't say that I have ever had one of their pieces of equipment fail so far.

Not sure I remember all this joke correctly, but a proud Aussie father engages a call girl for his boy's 18th birthday present. When she walks in the room and explains what she is there for, he immediately starts moving all the furniture out of the center of the room. Did you convert the generator to a 240v one also? PD with step-down sounds like the cheaper solution, if you have to deal with a 120v genset.

Thanks to Jim K for the new tail lights.
Thanks to Dan Gregg for his advice to me on installation while we were at
the Pueblo rally.
The new tail lights look just great, but I was concerned about the
complexity of installation. Dan Gregg made is sound easy, and here's what I
did:
I've got a table saw, and so I set the fence at 1" and raised the blade as
high as it would go.
I covered the new lenses with masking tape to help prevent possible
scratching on the saw, then ran each lens through 4 times, once on each
side. This just left a small piece of plastic in the middle that the blade
did not reach, and this was easily cut with a hack-saw blade.
Now my light assembly was just a lens. With the old tail-light lens and
trim removed, all I had to do was hold the new lens in position, drill 4
pilot-holes (the old holes did not match up), and attach the new lenses with
the stainless self-taping screws Jim K included with the package.
The "other way" (replacing the whole light assembly) may be preferred by
some, but this is what worked for me. All up, I think I had both sides
finished in about an hour.

Fin,
We sell them with new bulb sockets so that you will use the new
assembly and the reflector inside it.
We have seen too many units where the moister had got into the unit
and can see the rusted reflector material .
Fin, I'll send you new lens n/c if you decide t redo it.
Should you decide to keep it that way, I'll give you credit for the
sockets. They are new and cost more than people think.

That is about the same way I did mine 5 or 6 years ago. If you want the lights to be brighter, cover the old galvanized reflectors with aluminum reflective tape. It makes a big difference.

Believe it or not but I never heard that one before, I love it! Being a
USAussie (I hold dual citizenship) I will tell it to my Aussie mates to
"give them a go!"
At the Pueblo Convention there was a Kiwi (New Zealander) selling small
decorative rock fires that hooked up to LPG bottles. Ray Schwartzendruber
must have mentioned that there were some more Australians (Peter & Kay
Bailey and me) attending the convention. I'll bet he quickly clarified the
fact that he was from New Zealand and followed up with the joke below:
The Aussies have a beer up in Queensland with 4 "X's" on the can. Its'
called Four X. The reason they call it Four X is because Australian's can't
spell BEER!
Ray repeated the joke at the welcome meeting and the Aussie part of me
couldn't let a bloody Kiwi get away with that so I told this joke.
In New Zealand there are 10 sheep for every person. Aussies have a saying;
"New Zealand, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous!"
