Does Dick do a swap service where he sends a new carb and I send the old one back? I need to keep my coach ambulatory just in case it needs to be moved (it is in the warehouse at work) and sending the carb out for rebuild would "strand" the coach for the interim. How long does it take?

Sure would be nice to put the new carb and tranny in at the same time...

Dick used to do this but I believe that he doesn't have any right now.
Tooany people would send him warped non-usable cores or non motorhome
ones and then refuse to pay a core charge

I believe he will pnlr rebuild yours now

Of course you could buy a carb from someone that has put on fuel
injection and send that to Dick

The best thing to do is give him a call. He use to exchange them. He did an exchange for me twice (due to a fire I had). This was a few years ago.

Chris..
If Jim K stocks and sels Dick's Carburators that would be the way to go... He could probably send one to you and then credit you when your exchange shows up.. Plus shipping would be faster as well..

We try to make it easier to obtain parts and service by being open 6
days a week .
Yes, you can not earn much doing some of these services, but our
volume is such that we can do this with these vendors.

JimK is a one stop shopping place! Can't get easier than that. Very quick and reliable service.

I bought a Patterson distributor from him earlier this year. Was quick an painless. Since our GMC's 455 is bone stock, no special curving other then what Dick does for a stock GMC. I believe Jim also carries in stock Patterson distributors curved for other FD ratios.

We get runs on the Patterson/Springfield Rebuilt carbs.
One time we had 5 rebuilt ones for a 403.
Now were down to 2 of each.
Summer month run us raggad for parts inventory. About 5 weeks ago we had a factory back order on the rear KYB shocks and ended up purchasing them from a source that had excess stock.
Phone does not ring as much so we now can spend time on projects.

I have only used them to try to pass smog tests for our customers.
I would think it could run little lean and not produce as much power.

I currently have an Edelbrook carb on my 1977 Eleganza II 455 engine. Also have headers supplied by one of the suppliers here on this web site. The Rv runs fine and gives me approximately 8.1 MPG. Pick-up is slow but when I'm up to speed, 55-65 MPH, its a pleasure to drive. Here's my question: I have no reason to try and bring my coach back to stock even though it is in many ways. I have the original carb and wonder if it's worth the money to have it rebuilt and replaced on the engine. Assuming of course that it is rebuildable.

My experience with Carburetors, is yes. Since the advent of fuel injection, electronic ignition and controls, how many service stations and tune-up shops do you see left? People who think gas stations make a lot of money on fuel are mistaken. the profits were in the endless carb tinkering and points setting, and now the profits come from the bladder busters and burritos.

I personally Hate carburetors, living in a hot climate doesn't help them. I will rebuild my Q-jet every few years if I think performance is dropping off. I still am not sold on Fuel Injection on the 455 as today's offerings currently stand. I drove the green thing party bus a while back which has a Howell TBI, and my tired old Q-jet with non-functioning power valves performs better. It may just be the coach and it's setup, however.
