I just received my new ZipDee awning from the factory. It comes with GMC specific instructions but they are brief and a little confusing. Step three says, define the awning area: Fix the position of the rear arm first. Mark the rear plum reference line 1/2" from the rear edge of the compartment as shown in figure three.
I assume they mean the edge of the propane compartment but the drawing is far from scale and looks more like three inches. Can someone with a ZipDee measure yours? It's the edge of the compartment to the two screw holes in the hinge casting. Anyone? I din't want to drill a hole in the wrong spot. Thanks fellas.

People think they get better prices by purchasing from factory.
Not so wth us .
Again the say ing "sopport your venders' do not mean much
We stock 5 ZipDee awnings here and can have them drop shipped to any
place in the USA and still charge less than the factory .

Jim,
You are a great guy and a boon to the GMC community but with all due respect
I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing the lecture about "supporting the
vendors."
I just checked the spreadsheets I keep on what I've spent on my two GMC's
and I've "supported the vendors" for parts and labor to the tune of roughly:
The Blue Streak: $5,500
Double Trouble: $17,000
This does not include what I spent while I was back there recently!
I was not "shopping" for a better price I just want to know how much the
awnings cost!
Instead of giving us a lecture how about providing the price for:
1) The Passenger side?
2) The full length Drivers side?

Rob,
I have certain interest as I have donated a final drive to the net
that came up with $4,000 . Not that this will not continue without
that , but it sure can not hurt.
Gmc International has benefited fro my donation twice a year for the
last 3 1/2 years and at the meeting Emery Stora mentioned how much it
has helped them to stay in a good financial position.
I donated to the Classics around $1,000 when they were trying to
acquire a Frbulator for their club.
Rob, I will not stop mentioning the phrase of supporting, Billy Massy
is not getting much back for us using his photo sites.
Rob, I consider you a friend, but Unless other people that have
understanding of my history tell me to shut up. I will continue to
sound off when it is were obvious that they could have received a same
or better cost just by purchasing from a vendor that have vested
interest.

Rob,
The Zip Dee for the passenger side is $1,645 plus freight from factory.
The driver side Window full size is $776 plus freight.

Hi All:
Jim Kanomata is a great guy and a boon to the GMC community, period!
We love our GMC and it is everything we were looking for in a motorhome
(except for being 30 yrs old and in need of constant attention) but we could
not operate this machine if it wasn't for the support of Jim, Nick, Alonzo
and Danny. I don't care what they need to charge to stay in business because
if they close down we will be forced to go to a SOB and separate from our
new GMC friends. Owning a GMC is a hobby and a way of life not a means to go
camping-on-the-cheap although it is a lot less expensive than a new class A.
Support our vendors!

Here's my experience. I bought my Zip-Dee from a local GMC dealer and had him install it for me. Turns out, although he was a "authorized" dealer/installer, that my awning was the first Zip-Dee that he had installed. He followed the GMC specific instructions supplied by Zip-Dee and started to install the awning. During the install it became obvious to me that the rear arm was going to overlap the propane compartment door. I pointed this out but unfortunatly the holes had already been drilled along the lenght of the awning. The rear arm support was moved aft as far as possible to minimize the interference but, overall, the installation did not end up being as "perfect" as I would have liked.
The point is, do not trust the supplied installation directions from Zip-Dee. I recall Jim Bounds saying on this forum to throw away the supplied directions and get in touch with him for install tips.

Gee whizz fellas, I asked a simple question and got fifteen replies but no one has directly answered my question. To reply to some of the other statements: I said I received my awning from ZipDee but I didn't buy it from them. I went trough a local RV store and paid $2200.00 and change for both sides plus $200.00 shipping. I tried to order through a GMC vendor whom I won't mention. They told me I'd have to pay shipping twice, once to then and again to me. Their price was nearly $2600.00 plus double shipping.
Now, can someone tell me where to drill? I appreciate the enthusiasm but I'm hoping to get this thing on the coach this weekend, at least the patio awning on the passenger side. Thanks again for the help and advice.

Bill,
This problem with the door is always a challenge.
We need to fudge it on both the front and rear sections .
Most will find that they need to unhook the rafter arm when opening
the propane door.
Be cause your a authorized dealer does not mean they are proficient in
installs. It is hard to really qualify.
In our case, we have very good relationship with all but one repair
shop so there is nothing we can't find our how to do it properly
before we start a project.
You'll see this error on lots of them.
