Tell us how you REALLY feel! Must be frustrated. (BTDT)

Keep in mind they are 30 some odd years old, and most have spent almost all that time in the sun.

'73 to '76 are basically the same. The dash changed for 77 and 78.

Well, I knew it was brittle. And yes, 30 years under a glass bubble, but after I carefully took it apart, painted it, put it all back together. It just went snap crackle pop, mostly just the shroud behind the now newly padded and covered horse collar. It will have to do until I make a new one, but that is after everything else.

Coach is totally empty now. All the crap is in the warehouse. Looks like I emptied a 17 ft U-Haul that was packed. Looks nice inside.

Frank Jenkins has a fiberglass replacement dash that is the closest I have seen to the original. I have only seen it on his website so I can't comment about it.

We have all probably had the same problem.
Here are some pictures of what I did.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=4883&ppuser=85

They were taken after the fact through the windshield but should give
you an idea of what you can do.

The plastic pieces were epoxied back onto the aluminum with JB Weld
and also screwed with some very small flat head screws that were
countersunk into the face of the plastic parts.

Emery. I did the same thing with alum brackets, but not as elaborate as yours. I also screwed a plate to the plastic hood, but that is where the problem lies. It cracked at 5 of the six screws. I will patch it with new abs and abs cement, but I am going to start modeling my new modern curved dash after I get the coach done.

Chris,

Looks like you had the same problem I had when I covered my doughnut
several years ago: I wanted the seam to be at the steering column notch
but it didn't work out that way when the glue dried. :-) Your task was
more difficult than mine though, because I had the doughnut on the
workbench & still couldn't get it where I wanted it -- and it appeared
so simple! Nice job, nonetheless.

Ken, I had mine on the bench too, and used some stretchable vinyl from an automotive trim supply. Laying it out in the sun helped a bit. If I had the druthers, I'd do it again, and probably succeed using a heat gun, but forget it. It looks good enough for now. I will build a new more modern looking dash in the future.
