All the moving parts on this coach have been refreshed in the last 10 years except the engine.
There is no information about mileage or history.
I got the intake off yesterday.
It had a turkey tray.
The front and rear edges were sealed with calking only- no rubber gaskets so that tells us it was opened up once in its lifetime, right ?
There was a fairly small amount of charred oil.
Beyond that i have no idea what to look for.

Dave,
Can you tell if the cylinder head covers have been off? They may not have been. If they have, the heads have probably been off.
I don't know a quick and sure way to know if the engine has been out of the coach.
It seems that many GMC/TZE engines get opened up for no good reason. Now you know for a fact that the intake has been removed before, but if the heads have been off, they may not have been replaced with the 0.017 embossed steel head gasket. Many times shops want to do an overhaul on a 455 thinking it is a poor an engine as the 454. A 454 with 80k of motorhome service will need an overhaul. The engine used in our coaches had a high nickel block so the bores almost don't wear, bigger bearings and hardened valve seats with better quality valves.
My engine was overhauled at about 95K. At about 175K, #7 piston broke a land and lost a lot of rings into the pan. If I had had a build book, I could have bought one piston a sent it back out with a clear conscience.

One can rotate the engine and see if the Camshaft is in good shape or flat
at the lobe.

Thanks guys.
I have since had a conversation with the PO and we connected some dots. The engine has 70,000 miles mostly with the same owner, prior to 2013.
It looks pretty good inside, i'm gonna' put it back together and send for oil analysis after i get some miles on it.
