My OEM cruise control is not releasing when I "hit the brakes". It will coast down by holding the engage button in or by shutting the engine off. I could not find an addendum chapter on the cruise control in the manual. Any insight is appreciated.

There is a simple switch on the brake pedal. (You will find 2). 1 is for the cruise. It can easily be tested and adjusted.

Slide switch towards pedal. Lift pedal by hand. Switch ratchets and self adjusts.

IIRC that switch also ha a vacuum line connected to it. When you step on the brake, the switch is suppose to kill CC electrically AND, as a safety measure, open the vacuum line so it an not stick on.

I had trouble with the cruise control not holding a steady set point. I could not locate a replacement so I disassembled it and lubricated with silicone grease. It worked great for 6 months. I just discovered Jim K has the switch and an order is in order.
I was surprised the service manual was silent on the cruise master.
