At least 2 ways to go.
One is to just make a vacuum canister out of PVC pipe, and run a large
vacuum hose to the booster. Engine vacuum suffices to charge the canister.
No pump required. Or, a smaller pump will suffice to replenish the vacuum
needed when the engine is off.
The second, is to use an electric driven larger vacuum pump, with no
canister. But it needs to be big enough to perform the brake booster task
all by itself. Those pumps are more $$$, and are usually turned on and off
via a vacuum sensing switch and relay setup. Again, a more complex
system, not exactly trouble free.
Pretty hard to find something that pumps as much vacuum as your engine.

That's what I want to replace, the pump that shuts on and off.  Mine won't shut off anymore and runs continuously. Sent from my U.S.Cellular© Smartphone

Talk to Dave Lenzi. He has an adapter to the vacuum booster with a built-in vacuum switch. I'm not sure about a pump, but he can bring you up to date about that.

Ray,

If your vacuum pump runs constantly, you might have a leak in your brake booster that doesn't allow the vacuum to build up to the point where the pump shuts off.

Just a thought. It might be a good idea to check that out.

I had thought of that, so I Disconnected the hose from the power brake booster and plugged it, pump kept running.  I need to remove the pump and do more analysis on it.Sent from my U.S.Cellular© Smartphone

Sounds like pump working “too good”. Can you just unstick or replace switch? Maybe McMaster, Granger or such?

Most vacuum pumps have a vacuum set switch either internally or an external switch. This switch can be set to turn off when the desired vacuum is reached.
As you go up in altitude the vacuum the he pump can achieve will be less. If you have the switch set too high the pump may not be able to achieve the vacuum and it will run forever.

The vacuum switch used by Dave Lenzi on his brake booster is made by Shift Technology Products called Adjustable Vacuum Switch part # K085.
