Hello,
Our new-to-us '75 Eleganza has what I believe is the original bathroom faucet and shower hose. Our previous owner mentioned they rarely if ever used the shower. The shower diverter, which I understand is the pull knob on the front of the filler spout. It was fixed solid till I gently coaxed it into moving. Probably 45 years of calcium buildup. Also, some water is leaking from the faucet controls when I operate them. So here is my mini bouquet of questions: 1. Is there anything magic with the faucets? It looks like the fitting is removed and I expect some washers or O-rings that need replacing. Or, do I have to replace the whole valve? As for the shower diverter would you expect the operation to return to normal after gently working it in and out and maybe injecting some cleaner or vinegar or??? Before I dig into this I thought I'd check with others with previous experience so I don't end up with a faucet in pieces only to find the parts are un-obtanium. Thank you. Grant. (I have photos but I can't get them to load...will work on it)

Hi Ken.
Thank you very much for the link. I didn't think to search for the obvious "sink diverter". The pictures are great and I like pictures. For the diverter I've managed to coax it into moving enough for the shower to operate - after I took the handheld apart and cleaned out the rust and silt. Our stores are starting to open back up this week so once I know I can go in and browse and tackle the faucets. I've now found the original sink faucet is leaking the same. I'm hoping this will all be solved with some O-rings or washers. Thanks. G

Grant, I've found CLR good for cleaning off deposits in faucets, etc. Also Rona, Home Depot, Lowes, and Canadian tire carry both waterproof grease and silicone grease.
I wouldn't consume water from a faucet where you where you used the grease until I was sure no grease was coming out with the water.

Dave,
That is a very interesting comment about the grease in the water system. I never considered this because we never consume water from the GMC water system. We, including our pets, only drink or prepare food with bottled water in our coach.
I sanitize the water system with bleach every spring but we still never consume water from that system. I also try to fill the system with water from city treated water systems that contains chlorine. Even with those precautions, this would not take care of grease or oil introduced into the system after filing it with clean, treated water. Cleaning with bleach only attacks biological issues and not the introduction of foreign substances like oil and grease.
Thanks for the very good reminder.

To Ken B. I thought about the grease because we have a home bathroom with very old faucets
(two handled) for the tub and shower
. The body is brass and the stems are brass. I had to replace the stems and now the taps are very hard to turn on or off. I may shut the water off and take it all apart and try a touch of the waterproof grease. I don't think I can make it worse than it is.

Did you over tighten the stems?

To Bruce Hart. While I had the tub faucets apart to replace the stems i also replaced the seats. That was a "pain" There's nothing anywhere
on the installed faucets that says the brand. So I shut off the water, made a tool to get 1 seat out and took it to the ""big" box.
How can there be so many choices. Got 2 that looked correct. Installed them and 2 weeks later took it all apart again to replace the torn up washers. And it goes on and on. TOO much non GMCMH for here.
