The GMC Motorhome was never really intended to have solar and all the heavy
batteries that are associated with it mounted on and in the coach.
Top this with having to purchase the solar controller and inverters and then
you have to choose batteries.
The controllers offer their own problems for what you need to purchase and
the inverters can also be a problem when you weigh a cheap inverter versus
a SINE WAVE inverter.
A successful solar powered system needs enough batteries to maintain power
at the need that you may have and may require 2 to 4 batteries or more.
The LITHIUM Batteries are lighter but they come with their own problems as
well as being quiet expensive.
Now before I continue, I will say that I am NOT promoting a product. I have
recently found a product that might fit some RVers needs as well as be able to
serve as a back up power for your home should a blackout occure (short term).
Most of my information has come from a site called HOBO TECH on you tube. He
reviews and tests on video many different types of Solar Generators and is one
of the random users that the manufacturers will have test units before production
runs are initiated.
A SOLAR GENERATOR is a package, that combines the Solar Controller, and depending
on the package, that Controller may be the better MPPT model, and the Inverter,
which generally can be the SINE WAVE model needed for most of your delicate
electronics.
These Solar Generators are available in very small watt packages that include the
controller, inverter and the batteries which most likely are Lithium packages.
You have to add your Solar panels, but these units are also chargable from 120v ac.
You can use these packages in your home as standby power, most are not UPS type
standby units but some are available as such. They are light enough to be able
to be moved to the RV for your adventure and if you have Solar Panels, they will
keep a charge up.
One of the Solar Generators are 2200kw with a 2000 watt inverter. There are units
that have larger or ability to add battery but the size starts to get larger and
the weight begins to get heavier which nixes the ability to easily move it around.
These new units are taking the guess work out of having a power supply on your
RV as they are already put together by the manufacturer with matched products.
Some of them have plugs so you can connect this unit to your Motorhome (not
vehicle) 12v system for lights, refers, etc, and may have the usb ports for
phones, gps charging. I know of ONE that has the recharging stations where you
just lay your phone on top.
I felt this was quite the step forward and worth mentioning and with dual purpose,
for RV and or back up power for the house, it was worth a mention.
I suggest you check out HOBO TECH's channel and take a look at these Power Stations.

Lots of good info if you are interested.

The hair on the back of my neck always comes to attention when I hear the term "solar generator". They are truly "generators" only when you add the power that charges them. That power comes from a the power company (to recharge the battery) or a solar panel (to recharge the battery). IT IS A FREAKING BATTERY (that might have an inverter).... PERIOD!!!!!!! Here is a trick....plug your rig into your "solar generator" at 9pm, turn on your huge outdoor entertainment center, your outdoor lighting system of 1200 footcandles, your electric blanket, your Panini Maker and in the morning wonder why the "generator" isn't powering up your espresso machine. Your "generator" is dead, kaput, until you recharge it.
I do like Hobo Tech videos....just hate the descriptive "generator" because they are NOT generators, and a LOT of people are getting suckered by that term.
Just sayin'....(now I have to go take a cold shower)....

Before you do anything, check this out:

There is a LOT of good info here. Do it once and do it right. (I wish I had, I have some re-doing to do on my system)

There's nothing wrong with it. Some anti virus sites are slow about
cleaning up their own lists.
