I have the original water pump in my GMC and it still works. What should I replace it with when it goes out?

Just this year I went through the water pump saga.
In my '73 I had what I think was the original Pur water pump. I even had a spare. It has worked flawlessly for 25 years. I decided to google the pump and was surprised to find that it is still available, including a rebuild kit. We have liked it, so I bought and installed the rebuild kit. It was kind of a pain because the through bolts which hold the thing together were rusted and broke, but I managed a successful rebuild and it ran like new. The problem is, I could not find a rebuild kit for the pressure switch which I took apart and cleaned. The flexible membrane was extremely stiff and a more clever person would have researched a replacement material and cut a new membrane. I did not. This resulted in a perfectly running, rebuilt pump which would not reliably start, though it would stop. After lifting the bed and whacking the pump one too many times I rigged a spare wrench and line which was reachable which would smack the pump when jerked. After living the MacGyver life for a week I decided to replace the pump.
Our replacement has been a: "SHURflo 12v 3.0 GPM Revolution RV Water Pump # 4008-101-A65" bought off Amazon for $60. I also bought the screen. Life has been much better with the new pump. The most obvious benefit has been the ease with which we can adjust the temperature of the shower water without the pulse of the old Pur. This is due to the fact that this pump has four little chambers instead of one big one, so the flow is more even. Time will tell how durable this one is though it is unlikely to match the original at 47 years, but we really like it. JWID

If your happy with the old one, look for the same specs or go with one with
more volume .
Most units have the same connection so easy to install.
Most are quiet, but noise is good to know should you have small leak as you
will hear a pulse.

It has been my experience that the pressure control switch is the high failure part of the PAR pumps. Parts for and replacement switches are difficult to non-existent. I like these pumps, but if you can't get the parts you need, that just does not matter very much.
