Guys,
Did GMC make any corrections to mitigate "Chipmunk Cheeks" on the 1977 Birchavens or should I address this issue before it occurs and while I have the side panels off?
Thanks for any and all input,
Take care all,
Tom

If it bothers you I would take care of it while you have the panels off. I have seen 77’s and 78’s with the chipmunk cheeks.

Tom,
Now's the time to fix the chipmunk cheeks. Many years back, at one of our
Dixielanders rallies, one of our members, a professional Corvette
restoration expert, demonstrated his method for that project: He removed
the rubber from the beltline rub strip and concealed beneath it some
screws/bolts into the interior frame. That allowed him to pull the cheeks
back into alignment. Then, with the wheel well liners removed, he placed
fiberglass "angle irons" over the sidewall/floor junction, and "glued" them
in place with resin and cloth. That not only sealed the joint but
reinforced the screws holding everything in place. With the rubber back in
the rub strip, there was no outside sign of the repair and it appeared to
be a permanent fix.
I'd already done something similar, without the fiberglass, to my
X-Birchaven, so I've never tried that method, but it looked good to me. :-)

Thank you Ken and Scott,
I will start the preventative modifications per Kens instructions. I found some old photos of the repairs and Have the concept of the operation. Thanks Guys.
Take care and stay healthy,

If you need more info on the repair, I believe Jim B has a video on it from the co-op.
