Larry,
'Also have the engine heat-assisted water heater. And same problem with
overheated water when left on automatic C 3 firing. Here is a programmable
timer that I have used for about six years. Can program it for several
cycles daily, according to usage pattern. Water temp is controlled by run
time, same as with the manual timer.

We have a propane water heater assisted by engine heat. When parked, we use
to turn the heater on shortly before we needed hot water for washing up or
dishes etc. Problem came when we would forget to turn it off before it got
to hot, or forget for the whole day leaving it to relight each time the
thermostat told it to do so leaving us with squalling hot water when we
didn't need it. A total waste of propane. So I put a simple timer in the
power
circuit. When we get up in the morning or 10-15 minutes before we need hot
water for dishes at dinner time, I turn the dial and it shuts itself off
after 10-15 minutes which seems to be about the amount of time needed to get
hot but not squalding hot water. Then I don't have to worry about
forgetting to shut it off. Just tick...tick....tick...tick and off. Work for
us.
