Hello - Does anyone recommend a suitable replacement for a very vintage regulator that seems dead- connects to a fat hose about 18" long.
I adopted a '77 Eleganza about a month ago and have still a lot to learn.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....
When shopping for a replacement regulator, you will find that there are two types: Horizontal and Vertical. This has to do with how the vent ports are positioned. They are simple to replace. Without knowing any more, I will suggest that you get a two stage as they are far more stable. And yes, you may have a time getting a new hose made up, but a good gas shop can do that.
KTC NYC? If you are in the city, my condolences. I did my undergrad and Fort Schuyler in the Bronx, but that was 50 (almost exactly) years ago. The city was a fun place to by young, crazy and single then. I can pretty much guarantee that my favorite haunts are gone except for the MMA-Met and the NHM.
Now, before you go too far, please fill in a sigfile. To do this, go to <Control Panel/Account Settings> and then click on <Preferences>. You will see where to fill it in. Please give us a real name (we like to know who we are helping and it is much less awkward when we finally meet you), a short about the coach including major mods that might matter - in your case, please note if it is a 403 or 455. And finally a pretty specific (in your case) geographic reference. Most people have no idea just how big and confusing the city area (five counties separated by four major waterways) really is. I my case it doesn't matter much because if you are in south east Michigan, you are close to me, but if I am on Staten Island and you are in the Bronx, getting to you could eat a lot of a day. Do not miss scrolling down to and clicking <Update>. So much for that foolishness.
You will quickly discover (now that you found your way here) that the coach is much more than just a big new toy. It connects you to a community that is far more valuable than just the informational publications (of which there are a few). It makes you a part of a community that is made up of very supportive and helping people. Do not be put off by the forwardness you will see. It is real. Everybody here has a not so secret agenda. That agenda is to help you keep your coach safe and see to it that you get to understand all that it can do for you.
Speaking of, there is a local owners chapter centered in the middle of north Jersey called Colonial Travelers. You should make contact with them at your first opportunity. With the Covid mess, they may not be doing very much, but it will still be a good connection.
Now, about your several hundred brand new old friends, this community as I said is different and may even be strange, but take it at face value. The only other that I know of that is like this one is that of the watermen that are my world. For that very reason (and because it feels so right), I have taken to welcoming new owners here much as a new owner or vessel would be welcomed there. So,

Many Thanks for the reply. I am wondering if there's a compact regulator so that I can retain the old hose which seems OK (2 stage though better is bigger)
I suspect a pressure test might be in order. The coach is in great shape -many owners have loved her and spent a lot of cash on her it seems. Though I do a lot of my own work on my MG's this is a new ball game. Finding a shop around NE Pa is going to be a challenge. I will contact the Colonial Travelers group. A two stage regulator only has one output hose. I should be the same size as a one stage. All you do is remove the one stage and put the two stage in its place.
