Hello GMC Community!

I am a GMC rookie and wanted to introduce myself to you all! Several GMCers have already reached out to me on instagram and mentioned how warm and helpful this community is.

I recently moved home from Europe and purchased a 1976 GMC Motorhome (I think a Palm Beach but only based on finding some green shag under the twin beds, so I could be wrong). His name is Carl and I am just so in love. I am giving full time RVing a shot and making all the mistakes along the way.

I am loving this adventure and truly look forward to interacting with you all in the future.

Thanks,
Meg

Meg, welcome aboard. Do you have a home base? When, not if, you will desire
assistance from the GMC community, it is very helpful to all of us to be
able to point you in the right direction. So, your location is important.
Again, welcome.

Meg,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.......

I am very glad that you found your way here. While others might disagree, this is still the epicenter of the TZE/GMC world. There is another group coming on solid and strong that is <gmcmhforum.com>, they are good people too and that forum is easier to use. They are younger but no less capable. The one to be cautious about is the GMC pages at Facebook. Several that write there are dreadfully short of GMC experience and some advice that has been given is not just incorrect, but dangerous.

Now, do you have all the service documentation? If you do not, it can all be downloaded at the <gmcmi.com>. Even if you do not believe (we haven't gotten to that part yet) that you have the capability to do what this coach will need (if you are literate then you probably do), at least if you have the books, you can get help from someone that does. That person should want the books. (Big hint here, if said say they are not needed but there are not multiple TZEs visible in his yard, maybe you need to keep looking.) Be aware that your coach is 40 years old. She will require regular maintenance to keep her safe and roadworthy. Very little of this is difficult or heavy, but it must be done. If you do not have a maintenance log, start one.

Are you wondering what TZE is?? Look at the VIN under the right hood. It starts with TZE. That is only true of these coaches, but many others were built on GM chassis. While we don't hold this against them, we can't be much help.

I have to make you aware right here that this community may be scary at first. This is a community of truly supportive and helping people. If you put out the word that you might need some assistance, be real ready to hold on tight. The true stories about these people abound and the most amazing ones are true.

To this end, I am going to ask you to fill in a sigfile. To do this in the forum, go up to <Control Panel/Account Settings>. When you get there, scroll down to <Preferences> and click. You will find a <Signature> box. Please fill in your name because it is nice to know who we are helping and it is less awkward when you meet other owners (and you will), a short about the coach because they are not all the same and include major mods as they might matter, and finally a geographic reference. You will have to scroll down to <Update> to save this. This last is important because just by showing up here, you now have a cadre of old friends that you just haven't met yet. If they know that much more, they can be even more help.

Your coach is more than just a new toy, it may be that the most important thing is the community that it connects you to - immediately. Now, be ready this community is uncommon. Everybody here has a not-so-hidden agenda. That agenda is to see to it that you find out both what you need to keep her safe and road worthy and that you have a good grip on everything that she can do for you. (Why she? you will soon understand.) Also for this reason, you should first look up the local owner's chapter. You will find help there. Joining GMCMI is a good idea to and try to get to local rallies and an International when you can. It would be very difficult to over emphasize the value here.

The only community like this that I know of is that of the watermen that are my world. It too is a supportive community like this. For this reason, I have taken to greeting all new owners that I see arrive much as you might be greeted there because I think it is very applicable. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Meg.

Matt

Welcome from a fellow Ex-Palm Beach owner named Carl (me, not the coach)

I call it an EX-Palm Beach because there is little if anything left that made it a Palm Beach in the first place. I did get a couple of Palm Beach decals from Terry Taylor (DL Design Store) in the proper colors to pay homage to it's origin:

Hello Meg.
Did you say 2 twin beds? That was probably a conversion on a palm beach. But a very good setup!! People love their twin bed coaches!
Good going!
Scott.

According to the VIN and previous registry records, the coach is actually a
Royale. Honest nubie mistake.

Hello Meg. I'm glad you found the place! There's a huge fountain of knowledge here, as well as an equally huge fountain of "learn from my mistakes!" Avail yourself of both - please don't be shy about asking any question at all.

Welcome Meg. You have definitely brightened up your interior will all that white in your rear-bath Royale. It looks nice. I'm glad to see that you named your coach. That makes them part of the family, and not just a machine. Our coach is named Harry, after a previous owner and close friend. Perhaps Harry will meet Carl on the road one day.

Join your local GMC club, and attend some rallies. That's the best way to learn about our GMC motorhomes and make some great friends.

Safe Travels,

Russell
