I know what it was designed to do as I am a 100 ton licensed captain and
recently sold my (after 16 years) 53' Bluewater. And it is a leftover. BUT,
what's the best way to get the heat out of the engine compartment when you
park? Blow in cooler air or suck out the hot air?
That's the question.

Just leave enough space around the side vents so they will work when your
moving.
There is pressure when traveling in the upper area.
