things look to hopefully be coming together to install the turnquist rebuilt transmission into my coach this weekend.

my transmission failure(undetermined why), has a pile of metal in it, so we did not use that one as a core. That also means all my tranny cooler lines and transmission cooler must be full of metal, so I am going to yank that stuff out, and go with 3/8" lines.

I have the straight thread fittings to go into the transmission to go to a 3/8" brake line flared tube. They are striaght and not 45 degree like the OEm, but they should work well.

what i am hoping to do, is to install 3/8" metal lines from the transmission, and go up to the radiator to get as far away from the engine/exhaust as practical. then I have the cooler that uses -6 AN fittings, and I want to utilize -6AN braided hose to go from the metal lines around to the front to wherever I can mount the new transmission cooler.

does anybody have good information or photos of the fittings, or how to convert properly from a flared metal brake line hose, to whatever a -6AN fitting would be?

I have been looking at all the photos I can find. I am hoping to go down saturday morning and drive my coach home, and not find out there are more parts or fittings I need and can't find.

on another note- I am pretty confident in the quality of Steve Turnquist Transmission build. there is some cost involved, but with a custom fully furnace brazed and reinforced torque converter. he also uses some upgraded "forged" rather then cast parts in it, a couple upgraded spags? and does some other things to the transmission to beef it up. I don't have the specific details, but he seems to have a solid track record of building th425 for the gmc motorhome now. I think now 10 that i personally know of are running his transmissions. most of witch are in coaches that run alot of gas through them going all over the USA. he feels pretty confident that I should be able to push this transmission over the same Mt. pass that took out my last one. but I do not plan on trying to prove him wrong! So if anybody is looking for a solid transmission, send me a message and I can put you in touch with him.

JIC is the same thing and is used in millions of hydraulic systems.

6 is 6/16ths or 3/8"

Russell and Edelbrock both have female inverted flare to male AN adapters made of steel with the same part number 640610. These have female 5/8-18 thread that is for 3/8 tube inverted flare and male 6AN on the other end. Amazon has the Edelbrock fitting

If you have or have access to a 37 degree flaring tool, you could also install a tube nut on the hard line to go to your -6 flex line. Ridgid makes a nice flaring tool called the model 377 that’s been around a long time....

37 degree flares are the best.
they are single flare, so easier to make
They are reusable, 45 double flares are not meant to be reused
They seal much easier than 45s in my experience

I should specify what I did. We looked at a few ways to route the transmission lines, but felt that there was no one way that really got them that far away from the Manny Headers. So we ran 3/8" nickle-copper lines and kept them really tight to the top of the transmission and close to the engine block as we could I bent a 1" piece of steel and made a mount off the center final drive hanger bolt. Essentially duplicating the same thing as the way the oil lines run on the passenger side of the block. with the adaptors wally mentioned above, it converts the 3/8" double flare brake line, to -6AN 45 degree ends. then goes towards driver side and around to the front of the radiator and into the transmission cooler. I have the darelle stacked plate w/fan, it is about 11" square. I am not happy with it's size, so I plan on buying a 40,000 BTU cooler and figuring out a different fan on that and will switch that out in the next year before I ever try to climb a mountain pass again. that is about 11x24". I have not completed the install and tested to see how tranny temp is at this point.

Assuming that you are not using the radiator cooler? External only?

Yes. External only. That is what turnquist’s said. Dont risk any contamination possibility.
