Does anyone know any tricks for removing the A/C support bracket over the valve cover?

Does the AC bracket still have the long bolt that goes front to back on the engine side? Is that the one giving you grief?

There are two at right angles to each other.
One is on the front of the bracket. Horizontal front to back.
The other is above the spark plugs. Vertical.
Between the two the bracket will not move up or out.
"Long" as in 2 - 3"

It's not the long support bracket from mid engine to compressor.
It's the bracket above the valve cover.
All I want to do is put a new gasket on the valve cover!

So on my 403 i removed the nut on the end of the bolt your talking about, removed the support bracket that goes from the block to the outside right rear corner of the compressor and maybe one more from the rear bracket to the intake manifold?

Ill have a look in the morning just to be sure....i did think i was going to have to take the whole compressor out but in the end i didnt even have to adjust the belt.

Thanks for trying to help me figure this out.
I have a 77 403.
I removed the long support brace, no problem, but that wasn't blocking the valve cover anyway.
Ditto the other nuts holding the cast bracket over the valve cover.
There's two studs, one at the top front of the bracket going into the bracket facing forward, one on the head parallel to the support brace facing up.
One stud prevents the bracket from lifting off the engine, and visa versa.
The manual says, if necessary, remove one of the studs.
I tried a double nut on the one in the head but no dice.
I haven't tried the one at the front of the engine, much harder to get to.
I'm about ready to cut one off or ruin one of the studs with a pipe wrench/vice grips.
I assume there's something simple I'm missing, or I hope so!

Sorry, neglected to take brace off of front of compressor.
Only took me two days to figure it out.
1) read the manual closely
2) things are much easier the 2nd time
Sad
