I just want to confirm, before i drive 1.5hr to my tool box in storage that the axle nut needs a 1.5 inch or 38mm socket to fit it.....is this correct?

You are welcome. The only exception I have ever seen is a new CV that was on a rebuilt axel for a Tornado from Advance Auto. 10 years or so ago I ordered 10 sets when we were first starting to have trouble with the wrong spline count and I wanted to get some spares while I could. Out of the 10 axels I could only use 3, the rest were returned with wrong spline count and a round inner joint. One in the bunch had a 1 1/4” nut and was new, not rebuilt. GM-812 was on the joint. Inner split ring was a real bear to unlock.
