I've looked through the board and can't seem to find info on this, Could you guys help? I'm looking for types of paint to use for the interior painting of plastic headliner's and other plastic panels. I use an HLVP spray gun. One stage? Multi-layer i.e. primer, adhesion improver act,,,
Thanks for your help - cheers

Best thing is to talk to your local paint supplier....i can tell you what i would use but your paint shop may have better or worse products.

I've taken everyones advice and did a deep dive into the technologies out there and I'm going with this:

a. 3m sanding scrub
b. SEM plastic prep ?
c. SEM adhesion promotor
d. Color code paint - used in my HVLP spray gun

I'm told most pro's use rattle cans for both B & C but use HVLP for the final color

Cheers guys - thanks for all of the input.

Joe,

I've had great success with Rustoleum Universal Paint & Primer In One, and have no hesitation recommending it. The stuff is plenty durable, simple to apply and easily repairable. It holds up fantastically well on the exterior of my coach so I'm sure there will be no issues with an undemanding application like a headliner.

I can attest that your plan of attack should be effective. Make sure whatever you’re painting is thoroughly cleaned with wax & grease remover. Spray a couple of light coats of the SEM rattle can adhesion promoter. I’d recommend a light coat of primer/sealer before color. It will help with color adhesion and coverage. If you’re using single stage paint(base and clear in one) you might be able to getaway without priming ahead of time.
