So I’m working on my new to me motorhome. I notice the blinkers don’t work - so I check the fuse in the glovebox and see that there isn’t one. I put a fuse in, and can hear the hazard relay clicking. The hazard lights are on front and back. The switch in the steering column doesn’t want to budge in or out. That must be why the fuse was pulled... but without the fuse, no blinkers... anyone ever have a stuck hazard switch? Any idea how to fix it? I’m not even sure how you would access the switch... pull the steering wheel?

Sir: if the knob is still on it pull real hard. If not most any GM hazard knob will interchange.

The hazard switch is part of the turn signal switch located under the steering wheel. The switch is, or at least was, an in stock item at Auto Zone. You will need a steering wheel puller and the spring loaded plate puller to get to it. AZ also as these for free loan. It is not a difficult job. The biggest problem is fishing the old cable down steering column. I have done it in the parking lot of an Autozone on someone's coach in less then 45 minutes. It will take you longer the first time. The only two tools you will need besides the 2 borrowed pullers are a deep well socket to remove the nut on the steering wheel and a combination screw driver to remove the switch assembly. I think it requires a Phillips.
A couple of "got yas" are the plug on the end of the cable came is 2 different sizes and they look the same. One has the pin spacing slightly wider that the other. I have run to both on GMCs. The plug is located on the lower steering column near the fire wall. Before you start this project make sure your replacement part on will plug in there. The only other thing is there two different switches. One with cornering lights and one without. EITHER WILL WORK on your GMC and usually the cornering light one is a few dollars cheaper. If you decide to do this, talk to me, or one of us, about how to make threading this cable an easy job.

C Boyd wins the internet today! I pulled real hard, and problem solved! I see so many folks talking about being gentle with these 45 year old motorhomes - guess I’m being a bit too gentle!
