Hello fellow home bodies. Hop everybody is well.
I'm going to purchase a new A/C this week, for my Birchaven, and would like the opinions from people who have replaced theirs.
Preferably in the last 2 years.
Pros/Cons
My biggest wants are quietness and easy starts.
What say you?

My recommendation is Atwood Air Command for both criteria. I have found no quieter unit, and noise was my top priority when I purchased.

Ty,
Dometic's web site says in one place that a "ducted plenum is required" for that A/C, and in another "Inside ducted or non-ducted plenum sold separately".
Is your installation ducted?

We have the Air Command on our coach and it is set up using the non-ducted plenum. I'll second what Ty says, it cools extremely well, and is surprisingly quiet. We just returned from a trip down to Big Bend, and I'll add that it was nice to have the heat pump option on that unit. Being a desert climate, we would run the AC during the day to keep cool, then the heat pump at night once temperatures dropped.

FYI: The part# for the non-ducted Air Command (in white) is 15026, and you would also need to purchase the 15021 non-ducted ceiling assembly....

I am also a fan of the Atwood with the heat pump. Extremely quiet. And if you put it on auto, it will cycle through the 3 speeds (yes, 3 speeds!!) until it reaches its programmed temperature. or set it to low, mid, or high and let it do its thing. When the compressor kicks off, the inside fan stays on. So you will have the same inside ambient noise level.
But it is full size, If outside drag while driving concerns you. One Atwood 15k should be plenty for a 23 foot GMC.
Scott.

Jim is right, the Air Command is much larger than the modern low profile units. I believe the Coleman Low Profile units are are about 8" tall, I just measured my Air Command at 14.5" tall.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Dometic Atwood 15k W/Heat Pump.
After going over the options, and the reviews from here and online, it only made sense. It has the features I was looking for. The price was right to my door. I'll soon see and post a little review.
The drag issue really isn't one for me. The old unit is very tall as well. I've removed my storage pod so there's another drag issue gone.
Thanks for the responses.

Where did you purchase the Atwood? One of the websites camperpartsworld advertises a 15k w/heat pump for $671 each but at checkout shipping is $9.99.
Doing a search for reviews on this website exposes that shipping is charged separately by the shipper. I didn't see that information explained
anywhere on their website.
