When I re-assembled all the accessories to my new engine two years ago, I used the O-ring that our Pedantic Mechanic friend recommended. It seemed a little thin at the time as it was barely proud of the surface of the adapter, but I used it anyway. It did not leak for about the first 5,000 miles, but then started seeping a slight amount of oil. If anyone is planning to use that particular O-ring , I would recommend going with a slightly heavier one.
As for me, I am going to replace the o-ringwithy a square sealing gasket from an oil filter. It seemed to work better.

I have always used the flat ring from a oil filter and it worked fine. Re-tighten the center nut during the second or third oil change because the oil ring flattens out some. Rob Mueller came up with the correct one which is a better choice. NAPA and AZ stocked it. Send Rob a note and ask him for the number.
Rob hasn't posted in a while, but he is out there. I call him about once about once a month.

Yeah Ken, I used the part number O-ring that Rob recommended and it didn't do the job long term (if you can call under 5000 miles long term).
Maybe the one I got was NOT the correct part number, or maybe the adapters vary a little in the groove depth, but the ring needs to be a little heavier gauge to work.
I used the sealing ring off of a Purolator filter and will hope for the best, and as you suggested. re-tighten it after the next few oil changes.

Now I know where the seals went from the filters I bought on E-bay.

Use the one off of a Fram filter and throw the rest away. The filter is cheap and junk, but the rubber gasket works fine. It will flatten out over time hence the need to re-tighten it after the next few oil changes.
I did not realize that you had used Rob's recommendation. I have never tried it. Looks like I will stick with the oil filter gasket

Yeah, I guess the other trick is to install the ring/gasket dry.
