Not that I want to bring back a really old topic but where would I tap into an ACCY fused and switched 12V source for my Ramco mirrors and electric wiper kit?

Also, the previous owner replaced the OEM air bag compressor with a VIAIR 480C compressor using an SPDT relay with a 12 volt power source directly connected to the Coach battery NON-FUSED!! Shocked From observation and using X-7525B wiring schematic on the last page, the original wire for the air bag compressor is a 12 gauge brown wire that uses a glass fuse at the top of the fuse block behind the glove box. VIAIR shows Max. 12V Amp Draw of 23 Amps for the VIAIR 480C compressor and as I recall the glass fuse is 30 amp. I want to add a 30 AMP circuit breaker to the 12v source before there is an electrical fire but I want it switched through the ignition key ACCY circuit. Has anyone re-used the original wire from the OEM compressor when switching over to a VIAIR compressor?

Thank you for reading/responding to this post.

There are a couple spade terminals open in the fuse box that you could hook up your mirrors etc to....not sure exactly which are switched so test with a light or meter.

I have a Viair 480 along with the Electro Level 1 system hooked up as OEM.....works fine so far but keep in mind that my compressor only runs for abour 2 minutes or so....if it ran for hours id be worried....should it be fused closer to the compressor...possibly but so far it seems to be ok.

Thanks for the reply. There are a slew of dangling wires near the VIAiR compressor but I am not seeing a 12 gauge brown wire among them. Where does your 12 gauge wire route from?

This '74 Coach has Electro-Level but not sure it's original to the coach. It has a build date of 11/73.

Ill have to look tomorrow for you....now keep in mind i have Level 1...switches on the left drivers panel with the compressor inside the coach...

Were is your compressor? In the engine compartment by the drivers side wheel?

On coaches with the house battery at the rear and the compressor below the power cabinet, this is a common modification. Using the OEM compressor power wire to power a relay, then run the compressor power from the house battery through the relay. The power coming from the house battery is tapped off the #1 gauge power wire running from the rear coach battery to the from boost solenoid. This provides for a very low voltage drop under the heavy current of the compressor.

Of course the power to the relay should be fused as close to the source as possible.

Yes, compressor is located directly under the driver side steering mechanism. In response to the other reply, a switch located under the dash is toggled to provide the positive trigger voltage to the SPDT relay and not from a fused ignition ACCY terminal like the original 12 gauge wire from the 30 amp glass fuse. Switch is direct wired to the positive terminal of the Coach battery. The power wire to the SPDT relay is also not fused and is wired directly to the boost solenoid. I am ok with the 12v power connection to the boost solenoid but it needs a 30 amp breaker on the main relay power wire. The positive trigger wire also needs to be fused and put on an ACCY circuit hence the original question about using the OEM wire - if I can find it. This is a '74 Coach with Electro Level 1.
