GMCMI Fall 2019 Convention Vendor News:

It is with great sorrow that I have to inform you that we will not be
attending the fall convention. Mary's chemo did not put her in remission.
We have visited two more cancer facilities, but neither had any
suggestions. I will be contacting MD Anderson, Houston in the morning. This
will probably be our last hope.

I have great faith in modern medicine and great respect for those with a strong faith. I’m hoping the combination of both will help.

I think this is a good time to talk about bringing a coach to MD Anderson,

MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston has a reputation as an amazing medical facility. This post is not about their capabilties doing what they do, it is about a special RV Park. I can't tell anyone if making the journey down to Houston for their sevices is the best use of their time. But if you are weighing that decision you may can put this on the scale. In 2006 I had a bit part in building a software project to help patients tind there away around the hospital. In my time doing that everyone and I mean everyone was 100% over the top commited to the patient's wellbeing. But, my role there was small and that is not what this post is about.

More on topic with this forum, if one decides that they are going to seek treatment at MD Anderson you should look into staying at South Main RV park -- http://southmainrv.com

It is only about a 10 minute ride from MD Anderson (and Texas Childrens and Houston Methodist). They are reasonably priced, have a shuttle to the hospitals. It is safe, the bathrooms are clean. It has a nice laundry, comfortable common room, and when I was there was staffed by beautiful and loving people. It has a nice dog run, and there is a prayer garden there that I believe punches above it's weight.

Not everyone staying there is a family seeking treatment at the hospitals (bookings can be tough durning the rodeo --late Feb-Mar). But there are a lot of couples, families and singles staying there that are seeking cancer treatment from the comfort of their coach. If you do venture there for that reason you wont be alone.

I'll share a little about my time there. I stayed in the park for 6 weeks, it wasn't for MD Anderson. My infant son had some business with Texas Children's hospital. He is doing great and better than many that pass through there. God bless them all.

I did have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with people that were there for MD Anderson. My neighbor was a young woman in maybe in her early 40's who brought a C-class, stapped a moped on the back and came down ready to put her cancer behind her. I hope she did. I also met a couple that were packing up. Houston had nothing left to offer them but they had their coach and time to comfortably travel about and see a few more sunsets from places they had always enjoyed.

I'm really posting this message to show my love and respect for this park and the people who run and stay in it. I guess what I think is important to say is it's possible to seek cancer treatment in you coach, I've seen wonderful people do it, and MD Anderson is the real deal. As a word of caution -- It's easy for me to see how hopping in the coach and driving down the road will solve a lot of problems by itself, it certainly always improves my outlook. Hospital treatment, though, can be visceral and taxing and the GMC might not be the right venue at all. Be clearheaded and cautious, but know that if you think MD Anderson is the place you need to be there is a nice safe park waiting for you and your GMC.

Best wishes to Mary, Dave, and all of you,

What a beautiful, caring, thoughtful message, Tim. So good of you to share
your experiences with everyone.

There are also some good options for short term housing near MDA and I
believe MDA will provide that info.

All the best, especially to Mary and Dave, but also to all who are facing
tough times.

Sandra
