So my wife reserved an RV spot for 3 nights at Silver Strand State Park July 29 - 31 for my birthday, and I just now realized that I don't have air bags! I DO still have the aluminum cones and a while back I was going to do one of the conversions, but that got put on the back burner. Some kind soul in the San Diego area loaned me air bags but I no longer have that contact info. Can anybody help out? Please call/text me at 858 three four nine 6472 or email me at larryengelbrecht at gamil dot com Thank you very much in advance!

I'm very sorry to hear about that, Todd. I have never been burned by a GMCer, but have had a couple of tools borrowed by others not returned over the years.

Larry,

FYI, there is a great article in the latest issue of "GMC Vintage RVing" magazine published by Kim Weeks, the Exec Director of GMCMI. The article by Jeff Sirum entitled "GMC Air Suspension" outlines suspension basics and lays out the 5 options available including the original design and 4 other after market designs. Before buying, a system for your coach, if you are not a member of GMCMI, join and receive that latest issue of "GMC Vintage RVing" and take a look at that article. A good review of the available systems. JWID

If no luck you could use 2 four by fours if the route isn't too rough..

Funny you should mention that. Right now, 4x4s are in there until I can locate a couple of bags. I don't think driving around with solid rear suspension is a good idea.

Larry,
I lost the drivers side airbag at speed and had no problems pulling over. I pulled into a gas station across the highway (lucky) and rummaged around until I found the PO's piece of 1 ½ inch pipe and five eights threaded rod of the correct length. This no-bag cheater served me well for about 250 miles till I got to a relatives house where I installed one of Jim K’s quad bag system. The 250 miles on not great roads caused no damage whatsoever. The quad bag system has worked out very well for us.

Came home 150 miles from the beach with driver side a 4x4 block - could hardly tell from stock. I think in the mountains it would be an improvement!
