Most widow tinters can do it for you in place w/o removing anything other
than the screen.
Heavy tint is fine for all except the cockpit.
I'm sure there are modern tint that is not very dark, but reject the rays
better.
I know our New style Full height cockpit glass is lighter than the
windshield, but can't feel the heat.

I can now not only give people the Gesture that they are # 1, but stick my
head out and show my Slanted Eyes and Bucked Teeth.
Again, I am categorizing , but at 76 I'm not concerned as I'm branded by
average Californians as a Bad Driver.

Talk to me in a week.
My rear window somehow cracked when I back into my garage.
So I am getting a rear window made. They are making it tempered. I am also going to put ceramic tint on it.
When he is doing the rear window ceramic tint, he is going to also install clear ceramic window film on the windshields and cockpit side windows. They claim 99% blockage of UV. And 43% blockage of sun's heat.
Two people I trust said it made a huge difference. 3rd guy has been too busy to drive his gmc.
I just got home from a gmc rallly. Cockpit temp was 100.8 degrees. 93 degrees outside temp. That was driving at noon with a few windows open and wind wings.
Tint guy says should be under $500 for rear window and cockpit. Lots if film. Will save up for the rest another day.

Local autoglass
Company came out on july 15th and quickly removed the rear window in like 3-5 minutes.
They delivered it to a local glass shop:
http://heartlandglass.com/
That place used the original window as a pattern and made a new one. It was ready on 7-24,
So a little over a week turn-around. I was told sometimes they can be backed up a month.
Drove the gmc to the autoglass shop and they re-installed it this morning. Maybe an hour(I did not wait)
They used the original window rubber easily.
I am bringing in the
Gmc to the tint shop on Monday at1pm. He is going to install clear ceramic window film on the front cockpit/windshield.
And a tinted ceramic window film on the new rear window.
So maybe in a week, I will report back in the difference the ceramic film makes.

You will like the front ones for sure. We have a local tint guy that a few GMCers have used to have had their new windshields tinted before installing them. They seem very happy with the reduced heat results.

I have really dark limo tint, 95% IIRC, on all the house windows in my GMC. Ive had it on for at least 5 years. I love it. It doesn't seem that dark inside, it does make it a lot cooler inside, I'd say 10- 20 degrees in direct sun. It also looks better as the windows look black.
I did it myself in a weekend with no prior experience.
Go as dark as you can, use the best tint you can find.

Windex is how you remove the tint from what I hear!
BTW I was out camping this weekend and I noticed that my tint has faded. when I open the window I can see it's darker wher the frame covered it.
This was good professional grade tint.
It is 10 years old though, but still π
Looks like it's time to try the ceramic stuff

I read, somewhere, that you shouldn't use Windex or other glass cleaner on window tint.
It will eventually turn purple or do some other damage.
Maybe that was on cheap tint only?
Anyone know about this?

that is a good question. I would of never thought of it, but now I am sure that I think ammonia is not good for window tint. quick google search says"mild cleaner", but you always see that stated, for things that you are going to need more then a Mild cleaner to clean. I have cases of aerosol glass cleaner that the auto glass places use... I better not use that!
I will ask when I pick up the GMC today. I had an original discussion of "not more then $500" when I showed him the photo's of the GMC. That is for the cockpit area, and the rear window. He has no concerns about the rear window, it is the windshield that bugged him. He said he was up to the challenge today, but really was put back by that curve in the windshield. That is a huge piece of film, and thinks it will take some work to get it applied in one piece, and might go though some material trying. by the end of today, he is supposed to let me know if he never wants to see a GMC again, or if I should spread the word that he can do this.
I have had other tint people tuck their tail and run from the GMC before. I would think that it would be so much easier to do, then trying to get film in the back of a mustang..... but what do i know? I guess the shear size of that windshield and the curve must be a major problem.
