I'm pulling the half shafts on my recently acquired 1976 in order to install new boots on the outer CV joints. Both sides were torn.
In the process, I removed the shocks and found that they :
1. Are relatively new Bilstein shocks, with fresh looking paint and not much grime on them.
2. Show wear marks on the side, from the boots maybe? Right through the paint.
Any ideas how this could be? Maybe wrong shocks installed?
Is there any way an out of alignment front end could cause this? Or are the A arms the wrong ones?

Todd,
The blue plastic type boot is just a dust shield so it an rub on the sides.
It is never going to damage the shock.
