Take a look at Atlis Motor Vehicles. While still very much in the “we are planning to” stage they are focused on multipurpose vehicles including a platform for RV manufacturers. First target is a full sized pickup with 400 to 500 mile range, ultra fast recharging at free factory charging stations and whopping towing capacity. It is designed around a motor in each hub so the pickup is said to be towable four down, have 15 inches of true ground clearance, 12 inches of susp travel and able to ford up to one meter depths. If true and really comes to market it sound like just the ticket to take RVs (maybe even GMC retrofits) to a whole new level. Seems to be way farther along than idle speculation.

I was actually thinking about this a day or so ago. The GMC fuel tanks
look like they are a little bit bigger than in area than the standard
Tesla battery pack in a car. Volume wise one should be able to stack 2
Tesla batteries on top of one another to increase the capacity. Now
consider removing the gas burning engine and you have more room for
batteries. One could get a good amount energy storage on the GMC frame.
Put the Tesla motor on each wheel and you should have plenty of
performance to move the RV without having issues with sluggishness or
being under powered.

I certainly have not done any calculations on how far one RV could be
driven with a setup like this, but it does get one thinking.

I think the biggest issue is the freezing and high temp on the affect of
the battery. Although the Tesla batteries have a integrated coolant loop
that can be used to cool or heat the batteries to counter this issue.
Makes one start to think about going and buying a bunch of Tesla used
parts :-)

I certainly have been considering putting 2 Tesla batteries in the
compartment next to the generator to run the living area. From what I
can tell the batteries can fit in this space very nicely and will
increase the capacity quite a bit.

The frontal area of a motorhome is five times or more than that of a pickup truck.

That drives how much energy you need to push it down the road.

It’s a lot more than the 18 horsepower it takes to make 60 mph in a F-150

I test drive a Tesla a few months back. A car that requires 8 hp to push it at 60 mph.

Got in the car and the dash said 273 miles on the charge. A couple of handfuls of stop lights and 15 minutes later it said 90, and the vehicle was on restricted power due to battery temperature. The sales dude left his testicles in the trunk.

FWIW, the ten year old Shelby GT-500 I showed up in will do that all day long.

What I saw was consistent with the findings of many of the car magazines.

It’s a matter of what you ask the latest electro-chemical flavor to do.

Short haul delivery trucks? Maybe soon. Neither FedEx, UPS or the Post Office has done much more than test. Tractors for city delivery? Let’s see when they actually put them in the field.

Just remember, your mileage will vary.

EV’s are getting better incrementally.

Unless the cost or performance curves change drastically, I don’t see the revolution you do.

I'd love to see an EV revolution, but until there are major advancements in battery or other energy storage systems, I think internal combustion will still prevail. I do like the idea of maximum torque at zero rpm however, so eventually simple wheel motors may be a reality.

Looks like they have 6 full time employees as of the first of the year. Me thinks this enterprise might be a 'little' yet in the future.
