I have some car club friends who make the annual pilgrimage to Bonneville
for speed week. Their old school race car, hand built everything, uses
various different displacement Big block Chevrolet engines, both iron block
and Alloy blocks. Some normally aspirated, some supercharged. They get
about 3 down and back runs out of an engine before they elongate the main
webs and spin bearings. Block materials don't seem to matter much according
to them. 4 bolt mains, splayed bolt mains either. Girdles, saddles, same
deal. Too rich for my blood. They are all speed junkies. But B.B. CHEVIES
don't live long in their world.

Yup. I had a 454 on propane in my truck. Spun a bearing on what I thought was a well maintained engine.

RV dealers aren't usually interested in 454 engines beyond about 60K miles. The wear factor gets them.
