We are going to the Perry rally. Are any other GMCers going? Any interest in parking together?

Hi Emery,

I hoping to make a couple day trips to Perry - it's about a 2 hr drive.
The coach is laid up for the winter.

Emery, et al,

I just visited my aunt and got permission for us to gather at her farm
before and/or after the FMCA Perry, GA rally. It would be a convenient
layover for those of you going from FMCA on to GMCMI Tallahassee, FL. At
the very least, it would be a convenient rendezvous location for a caravan
into Perry, 47 miles ENE, thus ensuring parking together.

Here's the location of "Deriso Farm":
https://goo.gl/9AMCyA
or
https://www.google.com/maps/place/32%C2%B010'31.7%22N+84%C2%B023'14.8%22W/@32.175473,-84.3896257,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d32.175473!4d-84.387437

For those who've never been there, nor remember past descriptions, the farm
is nothing but a playground now. It was my step-aunt's ancestral home,
consisting at one time of about 850 acres. For several reasons, there are
only 250 acres left in the family now, but those are completely covered
with trees, except for the various roads, the barn, 3 bedroom house,
"smokehouse, the catfish pond, and the bass/bream pond. The wildlife is
basically undisturbed, as are the fish. I used to spend a lot of time out
there (restored the GMC there in '98/'99), but have seldom visited during
the past few years.

There are basically 3 full 30A hookups available around the barn. Other
than that, there are essentially unlimited dry camping spots, which I'll
try to get mowed before about 10 March. I don't expect to make any plans
for your visit, but there's plenty to do in the area: Plains, with its
assortment of Jimmy Carter facilities is 9 miles south. Columbus, with Ft.
Benning, the National Infantry Museum (must see), and the Civil War Navy
Museum (recommended), and other sites is about 45 miles NE. The POW/MIA
museum at Andersonville National Cemetery (recommended) is 18 miles east.
There are other interesting places too, but those will probably satisfy
most of you.

I you let me know when you're arriving, I'll try to meet you (it's 13 miles
W. of here). If there's not enough interest for that location, we can
accommodate 3-4 coaches here at home, with 2 full hookups.

Let me know your plans,

Ken H.

We can also highly recommend both the National Civil War Naval Museum (even if you are not a ship crazy person). Be ready to spend a long time reading the walls and the POW/MIA Museum at Andersonville (is an awesome thing) is not just about the civil war. We have not stopped at the National Infantry Museum.

We also did have a good time at the farm, but all too short as we had to get on to make the last day of a nephew's gallery display in Charleston SC. Mary was disappointed that she couldn't fish longer.

I am still working on both plans for this excursion.

Matt
