I entered the Hunter Liggett Military Base out of Paso Robles Ca 3 days ago.
Vehicle reg and insurance needs to be current. Drivers license and after Oct
10, the correct ID current. SS number required as well as fingerprints. And
they disappear with your ID and come back after about 5 minutes. So they are
vigilant.
I also stayed in the remote RV parking just off base. Cheap and no nothing
there. Deserted and spooky. By the way, Mission San Antonio de Padua was
well worth the trip off the highway 101.

Hunter Liggett is a great place to see wildflowers in the Spring because it isn't grazed by cattle. Same difficulty getting on the base, seems like overkill to me considering what's there. Some restrictions as where you can go because of manuevers. You can make reservations at the Hacienda which was built by Hearst and designed by Julia Morgan. My group has done it for years. The Hacienda formerly offered dinners, but not the last time I was there. As I recall they have junk food out for breakfast. Drive out to "The Indians" for some good hikes.

Neither the Anniston Army Depot nor Redstone Arsenal are that vigilant. Looked at my retired ID, offered directions to the RV park, and that was it. Some years back, they quit asking senior noncoms and field grade officers for proof of insurance - they may have gone back to asking. The host at DeSoto in Anniston was very nice about the spilled oil. Given Anniston's mission of destroying all that nerve gas, I was surprised they didn't look further when I appeared.
