I stay in military campgrounds whenever they're close to where I'm going. Given the recent worries over security, I find it hard to bring a civilian friend along. The rule is, everyone in the coach has to be able to enter the base by themselves. This means DoD identification as far as I can tell. Is there any way to get a civilian vetted to enter bases? Maybe something like the TSA fast pass or somesuch.
Often we have Stewards with no inexpensive places to stay at shows. Air BnB has become so unreliable and troublesome that many of us have simply dropped it from consideration, making the problem worse. I'd happily lend my two bunk beds if only;y people could get the the RV camp to occupy them. Ideas?

A USA passport would work OR one of the new "secure" state photo driver licenses as well. Oklahoma has recently been granted another one year stay to make our licenses "secure."

As long as they have a valid ID they should be good to go. Never had a
problem, I show my retired ID, they show theirs.

Len, retired - or active - or ANY DoD ID works. My problem is those who do not posses one because they didn't stay In long enough to retire. I'm gonna try Sammy's approach.

Johnny, They just changed the procedures AF wide, I think it applies to the whole DOD. . When I get to work tomorrow I will post the link and the new procedures. You have to go to a website first, fill out a form and then bring it with you and the visitor to the visitors center and get the pass. No longer can your visitors just ride with you, they are supposed to check the IDs of all people in the car (not always the case). If you PM me your email I will send you the document I just received that outlines the process.

Thanks, JSD.
Now I got to wonder - but I'll ask - whether a pass at one base is valid at another or not. Problem for me is, often I arrive at a base after binniss hours. Which is OK as long as I told the RV camp host but precludes anyone with me besides Paula getting in.

No. you must contact each one for a vistors pass and how they give them
out. (unless the "visitor" is a retiree or military) You will have to call
or write each one to get the pass process started. Each base seems to have
its own requirements on getting in.
Now if your visitor is a government employee (civilian) have them show
their PIV at the gate with their Drivers license. That will get them in,
too.
You can thank Bin Laden and all his terrorist friends for this
administrative mess. :D lol

Well, there might well be another problem anyhow. My travelling companion when we leave our wives home with the dogs and go steward a show is a retired NY State Trooper. Which means he's pretty much always got his heat in his pocket. This bothers me not at all, but it may keep him off bases with a 'no firearms' policy... which is most of them these days. I'll call the office at Redstone and see what they say. His ID has already gotten me out of a speeding ticket and he wasn't even driving.
