Hi Dean,
I agree with Jim, todays gasohol sitting in a carb for any length of time is bad news. Throw in a can or two of ethanol conditioner and hope for the best. Want a cure? EFI. In time that will be our only option. The gasohol is formulated to be pressure fed through an injector. No way around that no matter how hard you try workarounds.

Bad gasoline, and sticking throttle linkage.

While I agree E10 can be problematic, Im not sure you can blame the dieseling on it.
Plenty of problems with dieseling before ethonol was used. I know of several gmc vehicles [mostly cadilacs] that had factory anti diesel solinoinds that completely closed the throttle when the ignition was off.
From what Ive seen the cause is mosly carbon buildup .Bald gas can certainly exacerbate it, and so can an excessive idle setting

From April 1962 through June 1964, I had a Pontiac Tempest Le Mans with the big 194.5 cid 4 cyl motor (a 389 cid block with one bank of cylinders omited). Mine had a 10.25:1 compression ratio and a quadrajet carb on the intake. It required "hy-test" gas or it would knock like crazy. It frequently had a serious "run-on" problem after ignition was switched off. I had to put the tranny in 4th gear and let out the clutch to stop the "dieseling." I normally got about 24 mpg on the highway and 19-20 in town, FAR better than the low compression, sgl bbl carb version of the same car.
