After a long period of inactivity, I am prepping my 78 ROYALE for a rally.
Leaving tomorrow. Drag out the fill hoses, de winterized the hose bin, cut
the brush around it so I can get there. Drag the hoses to my coach and
proceed to fill the potable water tank. All good, so far. Go inside the
coach and turn on the pump, usual gurgling noises associated with filling
empty water heater, etc. Then, an unusual sound. Large amount of water
running somewhere with a change in sound of the water pump. Water suddenly
appearing under the kitchen sink cabinet, running across the floor. Oh
Crap, this can't be good. Turned off the pump, and opened the sink cabinet
doors. Water, water in places it does not belong. Further inspection
reveals another quirky Coachman install shortcut. Moen single handle RV
faucet with copper lines joined by short flex hoses to grey colored plastic
lines. One of them blew apart. Hose clamps loosened over time, and dried
out due to my winterizing. While contorted under the sink cabinet, I
tightened all the clamps. Some were loose enough to cause concern. So, if
you guys have a drive side full galley coachman outfitted Royale, you might
get down on your prayer bones and check those clamps. Makes a helluva mess
when those things let go.

Thanks Mr. Hupy, I will surely check the ones on my royal. Something else I found several years ago, is not use clamps made in China. I make sure mine are all USA made. The China ones won't tighten without sriping...tom

Had the same experience in my Norris 23'. Found the filter canister under the sink cracked. Winterizing didnj't include it - cos I didn't think of it. I bypassed it and went on my way. Pointed out to the NO where it had been and he could replace if he wanted, fittings still there.

How do you winterize? Drain down not replace with the pink antifreeze?

I will check those clamps on mine.

Here, we drain. Use the pink stuff in plumbing traps. Never in potable
water system. Blow out with compressed air. Keep small heater in coach with
cabinet doors open. Still, some problems will arise with dried out
plumbing. Best is a dehumidified and heated shop.

Or it anyone has the original 40 year plus kitchen faucet, now would be a really good time to replace with a updated faucet..

"Up here" (Southcentral Alaska), it gets to 35 below zero. I, among many RV
owners, never use the "pink stuff". With an exterior drain on both cold and
hot water systems, pull a vacuum (using a shop wet/dry vacuum cleaner) on
each system with one valve open at a time. That has the effect of
evacuating/sweeping each circuit of residual water. With a drain valve
installed on the water heater, open the relief valve and then open the drain
valve on the heater; 'leaves about 1" water depth in bottom of tank but
buckles upward when frozen without damage to tank wall. Evacuate the "p"
traps, also using the shop wet dry vac clnr. The residual water recovered
from "low spots" and "p" traps usually amounts to less than 1 gallon.

If storing the coach for the winter (usually mid-September-to-Memorial Day),
with the batteries fully charged , simply disconnect the negative terminals
on each battery (but leave them in the coach). Wet cell batteries, fully
charged when stored, will not freeze until about 76F below zero... There
will be about a 1/4 volt loss on each battery during the long winter. Do
not re-start the coach nor generator engine until Memorial Day.

'Have used this freeze-protect/storage system on three motorhomes in Alaska
over a 40 year period with never a freeze problem - nor restart problem on
bringing them out of "hibernation"...
