Just got off the phone with an ex-GMCer friend in Alabama. He's abandoned
a custom GMC-based vehicle construction plan. For that project, he's got a
Manny-built transmission sitting in my shop -- the last one I have or am
likely to ever have.

He's also got a freshly rebuilt 0.20 overbored Cad500 at our local
GMC-owner racing engine shop. It's never been run; it's waiting to go on
the engine test stand for the (new) owner to arrive.

He's also got two used/working-good-when-removed TH-425's.

I don't yet know prices on any of these, but I'm sure they'll be very
reasonable.

ALSO, I'm supposed to soon have here another
used/working-good-when-removed from a burned coach TH-425.

With the diminishing availability of GMC transmissions, acquiring and
preserving a known-good one is a wise investment.

Give me a call at (229 nine thirty-eight 27 ninety-seven) if you're
interested in any of these items. I don't yet have any prices, but I can
put you in touch with the owners.

The Cad 500 that Ken was talking about is mine. I had it built by John Beavers for the car hauler project but have come to realize that I will probably never even get started on that project...much less finish it.

Here is the deal, the engine is a 77(pretty sure) Cad 500. John Beavers of Beavers Racing Engines in Americus GA built the engine. It was bored 20 over with of course new pistons, rings, bearings, etc. John ordered high quality head gaskets from one of the Caddy suppliers. The crank was fine and was polished. The original cam and lifters were fine and were re-used. It has the stock rocker arms and system. It has a freshly rebuilt original carb done by John's Carb guy in Americus.

The engine is at John's shop ready to be run in. It makes sense for it to stay at John's shop so a buyer can hear it run rather than bring it up to my place and let it become a 'ran good when it last ran' engine.

It is ready to install. Ken Henderson can tell you about that process and what it means. One thing I know it means is lots of SMOOTH power!

John tells me a fair price is $4000 out the door, Carb, distributor, accessories, etc...ready to install. John is willing to crate and ship at the buyers expense.

The Manny Tranny that Ken mentioned was built for this engine by Manny. It is available until someone buys it.

I also have two other TH425's. One is the original tranny that was in my 77 Eleganza. There was nothing wrong it with it but when I pulled the 403 to have John rebuild it, I put a new Manny Tranny in it. Call, we'll talk.

I have another 425 that was rebuilt in the late 90's by AAMCO here in Huntsville. It still has the tag on it. Manny said it is probably fine as long as it's not rusty inside. Call, we'll talk.

The best way to reach me is two56.six79.four4eight8 or text to that number.

Kerry, Just an FYI
The engine is not a 77'. Cadillac Offered the 500 in 70-76. See this to identify which engine you have.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/identifying-cad-500-donor-cars/p64962-identifying-cad-500-engines.html

And see these for General engine specifications.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/identifying-cad-500-donor-cars/p64963-identifying-cad-500-engines.html
and
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/identifying-cad-500-donor-cars/p64964-identifying-cad-500-engines.html

Also, the Transmissions you are speaking of are likely the TH425 and not the TH325 that you mention.

And....HI to you. Hope to see you again sometime at a GMCMI rally. Miss your informative presentations.

Larry,

Thanks for those links -- I'd never done the research to find out how to
identify my 500's -- just assumed what they came out of is what they came
in. :-)

Kerry, I'll try to get by Beaver Racing Engines tomorrow to check the
numbers on your engine (and the "76" I've got there).

this popped up on a non GMC related forum thread the other day:

I guess if you let the air out of the rear bags it wouldnt need much of a ramp to drive onto it.
