Hello GMC community,
I'm ready to buy my first RV and completely fell involve with the GMC
motorhome.
I have to move out of my current place soon and am looking to live full
time in a GMC.
So far I have seen this motorhome in person
https://www.driven.co/inventory/gmc-motorhome/
Do you guys think 16k is a fair price?
But I also came across a couple of other motorhomes priced much lower with
similar mileage.
What is the best way to make sure I don't over pay for what I'm getting?

PLEASE understand what to look for with water damage/water leaks. Avoid my
mistake =)
Check the cabinet back corners, check the floor, check the hidden areas of
the cabinetry for swelling and crumbling. Get a small mirror and a
flashlight. I can send you some pictures if you need. I would not pay that
amount with any signs of water damage

Welcome aboard Angel!
Once you do get your coach, you're very lucky to be right around the corner from Jim Kanomata and Applied GMC in Newark. They are suppliers of all parts as well as a competent shop specifically for our GMCs.

Can't tell by the photos but, are they Alco's or just the wheel covers
Check the tire date and if they are 16" or 16.5" wheels.
When was the motor rebuilt, if it hasn't been rebuilt than you can expect
to have it done in a few thousand miles.

They were 16.5, then later went to 16, then the quit making them.
Also Appliance wheels made similer unit for few years and quit.
Now American Eagle is out of busines.
So now we can still supply the Alcoa wheels, cost more but available.

Thanks guys for the information sounds like I have a lot to learn.
I don't want to flood this thread with craigslist listings but if someone could help me narrow down the list to whats worth looking I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm going to reach out to MGM GMC for help as well.
If any GMCers are in the area and want to help me track one down I'll be more than happy to compensate you for your time.

Looking more like a $7000 to $9000 coach.
Be sure to check out the dash a/c and overhead a/c. Make sure they blow
cold.

Also look at the for-sale listings at these sites:
http://www.gmcmotorhomemarketplace.com/ForSale/
https://www.gmcmi.com/motorhomes-for-sale/
Most of these have qualified previous owners, who know how to describe
their coaches. Prices are often higher, but many aren't. At least you'll
get a sense of what you should expect at different price points.
I used to say that a good-running GMC coach costs $25,000, which you can
spend either before or after you buy something. But I'm thinking that the
price has gone up a bit to more like $30K.
Matt Colie has his own way of saying the same thing: A good GMC costs
$30,000, either complete or as a kit.
Of course, these are still a great value. And you can spend less up front
with manageable risk if you are willing to work on it as you go, and if you
focus on safety and reliability first, and then appearance, convenience,
and comfort second. That's the approach we have taken, but it's been a lot
of work over the years.

Angel Rodriguez wrote on Mon, 04 June 2018 13:17Hello GMC community,
I'm ready to buy my first RV and completely fell involve with the GMC
motorhome.
Angel,
You are doing it right, asking here. I agree with what the other folks have said. Especially 16.5 tires- ugh! And with Eagle wheels out of the picture the $$ just went up.
Because you are a California resident, I would think '73 - 75, all things being equal. California smog laws will mean you have to trot down and pay to have it smogged every other year if it is a 76 or newer. It means you probably will have to stick with the existing fuel system- carburetor, and all the goodies CARB put on 70s vehicles.
Don't get me wrong, some coaches pass fine for years. Here in California, mountains are close at hand and Carburetors don't do as well in high altitude. Just my 2 cents.
